Question about Whirlpool 24 in. DU1100XTPS Built-in Dishwasher
At about 20 months dishwasher made humming noise and cleaning of dishes became less than desirable. Cleaned pump and spray arms. Noise progressively getting louder. It is to the point where if one is in the kitchen they cannot hear someone addressing them from the living room. Any suggestions on what the problem could be and how to get it apart to fix?
Can I get to the cutting apparatus? I have looked for diagrams or prints for this dishwasher without success.
I appreciate any help one can give me.

SOURCE: Dirty dishwasher problems
Could be a a couple different issues.. Not filling with enough water or food chopper broke or food chopper filter screen clogged.
Check water level:
Run the DW and wait for the main wash to start (water will fill. pause then complete fill) The water should be no more than 1/4 inch below the heating element. If not there..replace water inlet valve.
Inspect food chopper:
Remove lower spray arm and rear water supply tube to upper spray arm. Remove torx screws that secure the sump cover. Remove the rounded cover on the left side to expose the chopper assembly. Inspect for breakage of blockage. There may be an additional plastic screen to remove first.

First, confirm that the holes are not blocked on these arms. (I did not want to assume you have done this.)
Then check the impeller on top of the motor stem for being loose or worn/damaged - to rule the impeller out. If it is fine, then the motor is failing and too weak to drive the spray arms.
To answer your question, I think the answer is "They don't make them like they used too!"

In my experience, you probably have a clog in the spray arm/arms for the top rack. Take the arm(s) out and see if the holes in them are clogged. Rice, plastic wrappers, and glass from dishes that broke in there are the most common culprits I've seen.
