Erasing recorded tapes

I have a Philips 720 Transcription System Executive. I do not know where the manual went and would like to know if there is a way to erase recorded tapes on the dictaphone machine, without having to record over the tapes (i.e., leave tape recorder running in a quiet room to erase what is on the tape). Thank you.

While holding the 'Erase' button down, press the 'Rewind' or "Fast Forward' button. It will erase the tape while it rewinds or fast forwards.

Press Stop/Play and Rewind together and that will erase what's on the tape. If you want to erase from the beginnig of the tape press Stop/Play and Wind together.

I have a 720 Transcription System which I can't erase any data off. There is a padlock symbol on the LED display. How do I get rid of it?

There is a tiny switch in the mechanism that detects if the erase prevention tab is broken off the cassette. Try another tape to see if it is the tape, otherwise, that switch is probably broken. The tab is located to the right of the orange colored area on the picture. There is one one each side of the tape.

How to erase data from the cassette tape

You are able to erase tapes on this machine by holding down the play and rewind buttons together. To clear the entire cassette, you'll need to physically turn the tape over and repeat.

Hope that helps
