Question about Linksys RangePlus WRT100 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Lost CD I've lost the CD to my WRT100, and had to reformat disks and reinstall windows XP. I'm using an AT&T/SBC 2WIRE 2700 modem I've tried the following two set of instructions without success. Any ideas are appreciated. INSTRUCTIONS 1 I. Reset the router. 1. Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds. 2. Unplug then plug back the power adapter to the power source. II. Just follow these simple steps to configure your router: 1. Connect the PC to the port one of the router then restart it. (This PC should be the one that can get online if directly connected to the modem). 2. Go to your desktop and double click on Internet Explorer (Located on the Start Menu in Windows XP). 3. When "Internet Explorer" opens type http://192.168.1.1 into the "Address" bar and click on Go. 4. The log-in window will appear. 5. Skip user name and type admin (admin is the default password) as the password, and click OK. 6. Go back to the "Basic Setup" tab and set the "Internet Connection Type" to PPPoE. 7. Enter your username and password given by the Internet Service Provider. 8. Look for the LAN IP which is 192.168.1.1. 9. Change the IP address to 192.168.2.1 then save the settings. 10. Shut down everything for 2 minutes. Connect the cable from the modem to the Internet port of the router. 11. Power on. (Starting from the modem then the router and lastly your PC). 12. Access the setup page using the new IP 192.168.2.1, click on Status tab and hit Connect. III. Click on the Wireless tab: Wireless Configuration: Manual Network Mode: Mixed Network Name (SSID): (create your own) Radio Band: Standard Wide Channel: (default) Standard Channel: (default) SSID Broadcast: Enabled Save the settings. Click on the Wireless Security sub tab: a. Set Security Mode to WPA Personal. b. Set Algorithms to TKIP. c. On the WPA Shared Key field, type your desired WPA Key which must be between 8 and 63 characters in length. d. Set Group Key Renewal to 3600. e. Click on Save Settings. IV. Using an Ethernet cable, connect the modem's Ethernet port to the router's Internet port, leaving the computer hooked up to the router. INSTRUCTIONS 2 I. Reset the router. 1. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. 2. Unplug then plug the power adapter back to the power source. II. Configure the router. 1. Connect a computer to any of the LAN or ethernet (numbered) ports of the router. Use the computer that can access the Internet when connected directly to the modem. Disable the firewall on the computer. 2. Make sure that the corresponding LED for the numbered port is lit. (The modem should not be connected to the router yet). 3. Double-click on Internet Explorer. 4. When Internet Explorer opens, type http://192.168.1.1 on the Address bar and click on Go. The log-in screen window will appear. 5. Skip user name and type admin (the default password) as the password, and then hit Enter. 6. Set the Internet Connection type to PPPoE and then enter the user name and password provided by your Internet Service Provider. *The user name can be in an email address format (user name@AT&T.net or .com), It should be the user name and password that you use to go online when directly connected the modem. 7. To get my connection to work, I had to configure my Netopia DSL modem for Bridged Mode and let my router take care of the routing and address assignment. I would also try to get a working connection before configuring security. You can always do that later. You have the order of powering up you equipment correct. Read this link. It works for me.

there is a cd-less install or Greenlight technology in it. it will automatically startup once you open a browser, (preferably IE. However, if you don't see it, try pushing the reset button at the back of the unit for 30 sec. open IE, then you will see the installation page.

NOTE: make sure you know what your username and password is... for authentication purpose...
