Akai pt 5598

I turned off the tv last night and this morning only the Red LED came on. I have done nothing to trouble shoot the problem. I saw a similar problem posted so I think that you may have the solution.

I spent a lot of time looking for a replacement lamp for this tv only to finally find out that it has three tubes and no lamp. I finally called in a tech who "jump started" the tv (I saw the green light for a sec) then proceeded to tell me that it was the 'motherboard' and the cost for repair was $450 for the board and $100 for the install (cost for that advice $89). Or he would take the tv off my hands and give me $50 for it. Needless to say that it is sitting in my garage (mother board un plugged )untill I can find someone to give me a straight answer (when hell freezes over I am assuming)

We watched a movie on the TV via an old VHS video, turned the TV off at the TV, then later in the day tried to turn it on, but it wouldn't turn on. The red LED blinks several times, but nothing else happens. I called Akai who said that the TV was manufactured by Samsung and gave me the registered Samsung dealer. He told me it would be $100 to have it looked at and that the repair would likely be $200 to $500. Given the age and technology of the TV, I'd say it's not worth fixing if it might cost $500. Would be interested if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

I'm having a very similar problem, but I am getting sound. I tried unplugging the power plug on the convergence board, but it did not make any difference.

This TV was a given to me from a guy at work. He had to have it calibrated once and then the picture quit. He had enough with it and rolled it into his garage. It's in mine now and I'd like to try and fix it. He told me that it had a great picture and was a great TV. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!

The Solution posted by "Guest" on March 18 2008 worked exactly as he said it would. The part was delayed a week or so due to back order, but it arrived yesterday and, once installed, fixed the problem for under $100. THANKS "GUEST"!!!

I second the post from Guest on march 18, 2008. I ran into this page and this was the exact problem i had. I thought, i should try this given the other solution, meaning calling in a professinal for 300 dollars. Anyways, the part Guest said to order worked perfectly. I installed it myself and it was easy. Took about 2 minutes. The works great now. And that website is really reliable. If the part you order ends up not working, you can return it for a full refund. Good job Guest, you just saved me about 300 dollars on repairs!!

I had the same problem with the same model i bought at an auction and it ended up being the convergence board it is the board that looking from the back of the tv its on the right and mounted with one screw and has two stk 040 black modules on it to see if this board is the problem unplug tv take lwr back off and unplug the red connector which is the pwr connector to the board it is located clear on the left side facing the back of the tv carefully plug your tv back in and try to turn it on if it comes on this is your problem ps never mess around anywhere inside your tv with it plugged in always unplug first. good luck if this is your problem you can get the part at partstore.com part#bp95-00142p for about $75.00 dollars

So the screen shows nothing, you just see an LED? It's likely just a burnt out bulb in the projector lamp. These should be easy to check and replace, it's really no different than changing a lightbulb in a lamp.

Panasonic PT-53TWD63, TV will not turn on, Red power light blinks

It is most deffinately a convergence chip issue. The die for no reason. They can be bought online for around $10 dollars and anyone with experience with soldering can replace them pretty easily. I have done it.

Tv won't turn on

I had a similar problem when there was a power outage or the lights went briefly out. I unplugged the TV and left it for a few days/weeks and then plugged it in and the TV worked. I think newer TVs should be treated like a home computer and put them on surge protectors.

Green is not being displayed on my TV

If you have experience troubleshooting solid state TV sets, you should be able to tell by a couple of voltage measurements if its a problem with the picture tube or the drive circuit. Simply take the multimeter and compare the base voltage of the green drive to the red or blue drive transistor. If the voltage is about the same, measure the collector of all three. if the green voltage on the collector is higher then the others, then theres an open between the drive transistor and the crt element. this could be an open resistor, a bad solder connection on the crt socket, or an open picture tube element. If theres no voltage there then your going to have to trouble shoot the drive circuit.
