Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
One day, our slimline PS2 just stopped accepting power from the power cord. I jiggled it and the red light would flash. I found that if HELD and FORCEFULLY KEPT in the downward position that the red light would stay on and it was playable. Unfortunately, that much bending caused the insulation of the wire to expose and the cord literally caught fire. Then I got an Intec brand replacement. Same thing happened to it. What could I do to prevent having to keep the cord forcefully pressed down later leading to wire exposure (and a possible housefire)?
The power connector IN the game console is bad. I've had two of these lately to fix. Havent found where to get replacements unless I use another PS2 slim as parts

Check the PS2 site, they are recalling SOME power supplies, because they had a problem where they would overheat, catch fire, etc! could also be the power connector inside the PS2 needs to be re-soldered! don't remember what date codes! here's the link... http://www.us.playstation.com/Adaptor

What do you have to hold down, the cord from the adaptor to the machine or the cord from the plug to the adaptor? Did you get a shock when you first tried holding the cords down? The cords are pretty thick and the insulation should not peel off at all unlees you are also twisting the cord. Also if you lay the console flat instead of using the stand the problem may clear up, because you won't be twisting the cord.
