Question about Samsung HL-R6167W 61" HDTV

1 Answer

2 in gray bar only on one side.

This is a issue not a function of the TV. I was told by the folks who sold me the TV that my warranty is up and a tech could be sent out but I can't afford to do that right now. He also mention that it's been common for something that is taped (I don't know what) to come loose and throw some stuff off. Does anyone have any pictures of this fix and if indeed that is the problem.

My 56" in Samsung has the same "gray shadow strip on one side" problem talked about all over the web, I guess its the "light tunel". My set is 22 months old. There is a class action suit set up already if you want to follow that.

Anybody have a do it yourself fix to cut down on repair cost?

There are 6" wide gray bars on each side ot the TV

The grey bars signal that the source image is originally in 4:3 format - if you are using a box of some kind get in its menu and change the format from there to 16:9. The black bars appear when a 16:9 image is sent to a 4:3 format in Letterbox mode - leave it like that or the Pan and Scan mode will chop the sides.

50 gal GE PowerVent Water Heater, about 1 every 2 weeks we get an error message and NO hot water, we were told by the Warranty Tech people that we have to set the mode to vacation and then back again...???...

Your water heater is under warranty?
And tech folks are telling you that you have to 'reset' the water heater.
And the tech folks seem aware of the product defect, but don't offer a permanent fix.
That's ridiculous.

You shouldn't have to reset the MODE or do any other thing to that water heater for many years.

50 gallon power vent model cost a lot of money.
And you got a defective product.
And the tech people know it.
That's certainly not an installation issue, or a homeowner issue, that is a product issue.
The manufacturer is responsible.

Read the warranty papers and find out what the warranty says.
Look for the word 'defect' in the warranty paper
Document when the problem started and what you were told.

If you bought the water heater from Home Depot, it's time to contact them about a defective product.
And let Home Depot know what the warrant says about defect.
A small claims action against Home Depot will give you satisfaction.
Small claims court will want to see your stack of paperwork that shows how much trouble you went through to get a functioning and dependable water heater.

As far as fixing the water heater, it sounds like a professional plumber would be a good bet at this point.
Frankly, I would buy another heater and roll the defective one out of the way.
Bradford White, AO Smith manufacture and sell water heaters through plumbers.
Once these unit are installed, the warranty is provided by the installer.

Hi, you can removed this bar by using the picture size function in you menu this is du to the signal
you receive in your tv;if your tv got a full hd signal
choose the 16:9 picture format the bar will disapear
if you dont have 16:9 signal that normal but you can choose full screen mode it should gone , that is 4:3

Viore 52' TV randomly shuts off. front lights blink then stop.

I am having the same problem with my PRT50V24D shutting off and blinking lights. After going to viore.com and calling the number listed, I got recording to call another number. When got rep on line I was told it is made by Samsung, Called their tech support and was told that sounds like power problem or bulb getting ready to go. Also if outside of warranty will have to call repair man to see what's wrong. I will have a repair man out next week and will post his results here. Most likely it's the same issue. This is the tech support number for Samsung 1-888-697-2247. Good Luck man. Matt

You can restore the function of the front panel buttons by pressing and holding the MENU button on the front panel
for more than 8 seconds. You may have to reset the button lock in the menu to reactivate or deactivate.
Hope this helps!
