Re: auto power off problem

You have either got the power and reset connectors the wrong way round fro the front panel, or you have not enabled ACPI in the advanced cmos settings to allow the board to support shutdown by Windows. Also check in the power options in control panel and ensure that when you click turn off the pc is instructed to power down.

My motherboard (p4m800pro-m v2) burned out and it seems the motherboard has been discontinued. It is absolutely impossible to find. Is there a recommended replacement or upgrade available?

I would suggest you buy a new board which will support your existing CPU and RAM, that way you will save $ on those items. Just do some shopping at FRYS.COM or TIGERDIRECT.COM

Getting it to work with your existing windows installation may be the challenge.
I would boot up on the windows cd, go through the installation till it says looking for existing windows... Then choose repair existing windows installation. This way it will install the initial drivers for the new chipset and video.

Onboard sound card does not seem to be working can anolther card be purchased for this board and if so what?

cmi 8738 is a cheap solution. first disable the on board ac97audio in bios setup, then install the pci card into the pci slot. usually the system can find the sound card and auto install driver , if not, setup the driver manully.

I switched out the power supply on an elitegroup p4m800pro-m. I was originally using a 300w and now using a 680w, but now my computer wont even start up. Any input?

I believe that your power supply may be bad. If it is new , send it back. I have had that high pitched sound before and it usually indicates a capasitor going or gone bad.
