Question about Insignia 37" LCD Flat-Panel HDTV

2 Answers

This was won as company gift, so no receipt or extended warranty. Intermittent signal loss, which comes back immediately. Today it is every 30-60 seconds, but some days not at all. This is during both TV/Cable viewing and VGA for desktop pc. Issue began approximately 1 month ago and TV is 5 months old. Model: Insignia 37" LCD TVI NS-LCD37-09

    Thank you for your response.

There are two separate cables, one for my pc video and one for cable tv, both are secure, both are functional on other tv's with no issues: we brought in another tv to be sure. Also this issue does not exist when watching DVD's.

The signal loss is on both the computer VGA use and television use and is not consistent...but rather intermittent sometimes not for a few days sometimes continuously for 30-60 seconds intervals.

This also happens when the tv is first turned on and therefore do not believe this is an overheating power supply issue.

    Please advise :)

    Thank you,

    Sabrina Numann

I understand the need to check cabling, so as a computer repair tech myself, I had already done all troubleshooting steps to no avail.
This response makes perfect sense and I will be sending back to mfg for repair. Thank you!!

Insignia are notorious for failed components - cheap cost and cheap parts.

Your tuner board has faulty capacitors or cracked solder joint (or both). Depending on the workload - the heat causes the capacitor to discharge - or the legs to no longer make contact with the board.
Once the capacitor cools + makes contact - the set comes back to life until the next heat related discharge. VGA and Tuner share same input board.

The DVD player uses a different input board - and that is why it remains on when playing.

There is no end-user fix for your problem. Insides of TVs store potentially lethal voltages that must be discharged properly before repairs are attempted.

Thankfully - this is a cheap fix, as capacitors are approximately $3 each. Most of the repair bill will be labor.

If this is the only thing wrong, a tech will disassemble tv, replace the caps, and inspect the board for under $200USD.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

This seems bad connections between your peripherals(dvd, cable, etc.) and your TV. Just make sure that all the connections are tight/pushed on to the terminals all the way and that you don't have bad cables. Also open the back and check the cables on the input port, just tap on the wires with a pencil and check is the problem reoccures.

Let me know..
Thanks

Hello. I received my everpurse as a gift at Christmas and the person who purchased it cannot find the receipt. It is not working. Can you assist me?

Possession is 9/10 of the law. Contact the company, and explain the situation! If it has a lifetime warranty, and you are in possession of it (as a gift recipient), obviously it was MADE by that company, so their warranty should COVER it, regardless whether you have proof of purchase! What other source could the item have come from? If they WON'T help you, contact the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), and file a complaint!

Iwnat to register for 1 year additional guarantee

Hello,

If you're needing information on how to register for what a lot of stores call the 'Extended Product Protection' or Wally Word calls it the 'Product Care Plan' I believe, there are a few different ways to do it. To save time; you'd need your receipt and if they provided you with any documentation - like a tri-fold brochure explaning the extended coverage options, you'll need that too. In most cases you can register the product with only the receipt of the item.
I would need to know where you purchased the item and at least the brand, make model to tell you exactly how to do it - retailers run the extended coverage warranty in different ways. But usually it goes like this:
- product comes w/a one year warrant and they offer an additional year at the counter while you're checking it out for a fee, for example
- (or) a company is offering to extend the warrant on an item for one year after manufacturer's warranty either at checkout on their online store or possibly through an email offer - in either case - they'd request that you either fill it out online - or print and mail it in along with your receipt (some places print 2 receipts for this type of situation - one for you to keep and one that should accompany the product registration mail in, rebate mail in or extended coverage mail in.
If you purchased at counter - it all depends on where you purchased the item. Usually you can go to the retailers website and they should have a link you can click to register or another for the 2 year product protection. Click on link/follow instructions.

Or - you'll have to call by phone. It's usually a simple process where you provide them with the proper receipt information They'll take it over the phone or by email and provide you with a confirmation number for reference/troubleshooting and that's it. That's the basic system.

-- Walmart, Sam's Club
http://see.walmart.com/walmart/protection-plans
(even if you didn't purchase at counter - you can purchase the extended coverage within 30 days of your purchase)

-- Sometimes the manufacturer of the product will have a link to the underwriter (Assurion is a 3rd Party company that offers this insurance to countless manufacturers and companies - Verizon and too many others to mention use Assurion)

- So either the point of sale or the manufacturer should have the info readily available. Here's a good one though that could save you a few dollars: American Express on some or maybe all of their cards, has a pretty cool perk - if you purchase the item using your American Express - and that item/store that is selling you that item offer a one year extended warranty on top of the manufacturer's...it's free. Purchases made with your American Expresss Card on items that offer the extended year on top of the year are covered by American Express. And it's legit. They've got a few cool perks - if you buy a small, mid-size or sedan rental car - maybe vans and mini-vans, I'm not sure - and book the rental car AND pay with your American Express, you recieve standard car rental coverage insurance automatically - and are instructed by American Express to REFUSE the insurance at the door because you're already covered. - here's a link to American Express' free extended warranty extension page. So if you bought it with an American Express you're already covered.

Didn't mean to get long winded on that one. All the best - Good Luck!
Thanks, Justin McCartney

Contact the manufacturer and let them know what happened. The company will probably honor the warranty, especially if you tell them that you don't have the receipt since the unit was installed two years ago. I wouldn't tell them that you recieved it as a gift, just that you installed it two years ago and the unit isn't running.

You can return it to Walmart with your receipt, they should have the warranty on file. No hassle should come of this.

Skull Candy has a lifelong warranty on all their products, regardless if you still have the receipt or not. This happened to me, I shipped them the pieces and although it took a month or so, I got some new ones back in the mail.

Purchase with gift card and misplace receipt = no warranty
House burn down with all paperwork = no warranty
Not good at keeping records =- no warranty
I have been in contact with PNY and can you tell they have told me without the receipt they can do nothing for me?
COMPLETE WAISTE of the word warranty.
and yes there support people get smart with you and quote other companies warranties and state see they do they same thing!
WAY TO STAND OUT!
Why even have a lifetime warranty, just call it a "prove it" warranty?

You don't register, you need to keep your original sales receipt where it states you bought the extended warranty. the date on the receipt and all is your proof.
