Yes, the brandnames Firewire (Apple) and iLink (Sony) are both IEEE 1394 interfaces.
Your cam should require a 4-pin to a 6-pin, both IEEE 1394. Hope this helps.

I dnt hav usb cable for my handy cam DCR-HC52E ...

Product Summary
4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.

You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.

This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook)
NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.

Hi sir. I thing i need drivers to my ccd-trv 108 e handycam to get my video int my pc. I have windows 7. And i want driver to my dcr-hc23 to.....is that posebul you can help me. ...

your sony ccd-trv 108 will transfer videos(stream) to a computer using firewire connection. install the supplied software or use any program compatible for streaming like windows movie maker. use a firewire cable. check your computer for a firewire port(port with IEEE symbol) make sure that the tape is totally rewounded then press the record button on windows movie maker as the same time as you play the video from the camcorder. (its basically playing the entire video in order for windows movie maker to record it.

WHICH FIREWIRE CABLE DO I GET FOR THE SONY DCR-TRV22E DV

you would need a ieee1394 4pin cable for the camcorder. of course the other end of the cable would depend on the computer's ieee1394 jack you'll be connecting the cable to. there are 2 types of ilink cables: 4pin-to-4pin or a 4pin-to-6pin (firewire 400) cable. latest mac computers uses a firewire 800 port so if your using one you may need a Moshi 800 to 400 firewire adapter if your having compatibility issues. see: http://store.apple.com/us/product/TW748LL/A for more information. hope this helps. thanks:)

I WANT TO DOWNLOAD MY VIDEOS TO A pc BUT CAN NOT , MY SONY CAMCORDER IS MODEL.DCR TRV 120, WHAT I NEED TO DO TO SUCCESS, I TRIED WITH A CABLE FROM AUDIOVIDEO ID-2 TO USB BUT CAN NOT GET IT.

your camcorder doesn't support usb streaming for PC connection.for you to download your videos you will need what we call an ilink (firewire or ieee1394)connection.the ilink jack is located at the bottom of where all jacks are located.also known as dv in/out jack with an i symbol. its a plug-and-play connection but you would need a pc that has ieee1394 card (check if you have one by going to device mng).if you do have an ieee1394 bus host controller that means you have a working port in your PC.all then need would be the correct cable for both your devices.if not,an alternative would be to use a pcmcia to ilink card that you can use if your computer has pcmcia card slot. if your able to connect and successfully establish connection you can use win moviemaker for your video capturing application.this has been too long an answer but hope it helps.thanks :)

Problem with compatibilty between windows vista

since you're using vista you can connect camcorder to pc uding ilink or firewire cable. usb conection would not work. no dirvers or sofwtare needed, you can use windows movie maker to capture videos. check your computer for any ilink port. it is a different connection from usb. go to www.sonystyle.com and type this model number, vmcil4615, for you to have an idea what firewire cable looks like.

ILink cable and laptop

I would have to consult your manuals.

I think that you are saying you want to connect USB. Nearly all computer ports are the SAME. [USB A]. Devices, on the other hand have maybe 6 connections. A very popular one is like a mini-usb. Look in the manual for what it says it is, take the camcorder with you when you exchange the cable.

Firewire

Yes, you can capture camcorder video from a miniDV camcorder using a FireWire cable and video capture software. Your computer came pre-installed with Windows Movie Maker, or iMovie (if you are on a Mac).

FireWire, IEEE 1394 and iLink are all the same thing. There are 4 and 6 pin FireWire cords. My guess is that you need a 4pin to connect to your camcorder and a 6 pin to connect to your computer. But it all depends on what ports you have available.

You can get a FireWire cord for less than $10 at most computer electronics stores

S video out on old sony to dv in on new sony?

01Dan01,

If your computer comes with an S Video IN port you could use that. If not Im sure you could find a cable or a kit that would allow you to import video from your ILink-IN from an S Video OUT port. You may need to run select software to accomplush the S Vid to ILink, so it may not work directly from Camera to Camera.

Hope this helps :)
