Question about JVC AV-48WP30 48" Rear Projection Television

JVC AV-48WP34 - Convergence issue, voltage readings?

To recap my my tv has wavy grren lines across the top 1/3 of the screen, and it will not converge. I have the ICs (stk392-150)and replacements for the out of range resitors. Before I reassemble I wanted to verify the voltage. The 10-pin plug coming off the power board has 2 29.2v pins, and 2 pins with -32.9v. Should all the readings be the same? there is also a pin with -12.8v. Also the -33v pin values seem to climb slowly; after 5-10 minutes the voltage on both was -34.5. (29.2 pins are constant). I am not sure what I should be looking for, do these values sound problematic? If so what do I need to do to fix it. Thanks Again

If the red line looks like a swoosh of red across the screen it may be the convergence Ic having an issue.

JVC Model no: AV-48WP34 Projection Problems

OK, problem seems in convergence section of TV and can be confirmed by testing voltage supply as mentioned in schematics.

You can download service manual copy from Manual Zone for small fee and it has schematics, exploded views. board location, part numbers info.

Let me know if you need further help.

Double picture

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

In the customer menu page thru it until you come to a page that has an item called convergence. move the cursor down to hightlight this and press enter. The next screen will have an Auto on the top line and a Manual of the second line. Hightlight the auto and press enter. The TV will attempt an automatic convergence alignment. BE WARNED>>>It will either correct it or make it worst. If it gets worst then the TV's convergence circuit has aged and is starting to fail. If it corrected it it's the same aging but not as bad, YET. If there is no change or it got worst then you will need to have the TV serviced preferbly by an authorized JVC service center because they have access to the service literature and buttetins.

Convergence green lines

Closely inspect the board for poor solder connections. Also someitmes the resistors will not show any signs of being bad even though they are open. It is wise to measure them but you need to disconnect the convergence yoke plugs to ge a good reading.

Tv screen waves and is double

No. You have bad convergence output ic;s and probably at least 1 burnt resistor. This liely will have to be reconvergec in the servcie menu after the aprts are changed.

Convergence no good on lower corners and upper screen

I'm assuming you used STK392-110 for a replacement. You could use STK392-150 for greater reliability and don't forget a good heat sink compound. (VERY IMPORTANT). What it sounds like is something even the best of techs battle. You probably didn't buy original Sanyo STK's but instead got a couple of the JApan knock-offs. Might I suggest you carefully replace them again and this time order them from B&D Electronics, on the net. You are assured of getting quality OEM replacements that way... We've had a bad batch that purchasing ordered quite some time ago and 2 out of the 14 ordered worked.. The rest were DOA (dead on arrival). Good Luck Bill
