The speaker icon on my laptop says that no audio output device is installed and i have no idea why ive plugged in headphones but still have no sound

Evidently you have uninstalled the driver for your audio system. I would go to Toshiba's support site and look for driver updates for your model and then download the correct free audio driver. Download it, go to that folder and run the setup or install file for it. Here is the URL for their support page:

http://support.toshiba.com/drivers

Enter your model number in the window in the middle of the page.

Good luck.

Can you use your SYSTEM RESTORE function? You can find it:
Start> all programs> accessories> system tools>system restore.

If this doesn't fix it, I always fall back on Realtek Audio sound drivers. I've never found anything that Realtek wouldn't get the sound working on yet. You can google it and download it for free.

Short of that, it sounds like you will need to restore your sound drivers to make your sound work.

How to unmute your nook

I suggest that you do a system restore to a time when the computer had the sound.
To do system restore, please do the following:
1. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Select a restore point. Make sure that it's before the problem occurred. Launch the restore. Wait until completed.
You can also install RadarSync and scan your computer with it so that you will know if there are any out-of-date drivers in your computer which can cause a lot of issues. You can use the same software to update all drivers.

Sounds like a driver issue with the touch pad. You should try and reinstall the driver.

After the latest windows update, all sound is gone from my computer, and intrnet connection is slow as molasses

Possible solutions:

1. Reinstall the drivers for these devices.

2. Do a system restore to a point in time that these devices worked properly and make note of the driver versions installed in case you run into this problem again.

go to control panel. using classic view, choose sound and audio device. from the dialog check whether the system speaker it in mute state. If its not in mute state. There is another option, u restore ur system back . click start, run, type restore in the space, enter, double click on the restore icon, it wil open the restoring points you have on your system. choose the date that u know that all the drivers are working well, then ok. Your system will restart. Thats all very simple.

Sound does not work, restore points are completly gone

dear friend.
the red X appears on the sonud icon in vista when the driver you have installed is incompatible withh the hardware.

try these steps
*check your speakers
if it fails
then

*go to device manager
*from the sound and video uninstall sound devices
*restart your pc
*the drivers should be detected by now

*if the above steps fail
*after uninstalling the sound devices
*click on search for hardware changes
*then proceeed with automatic install(make sure you are connected to internet)
note: the automatic driver installaion in vista is a bit slow so be patient.
