It may not be the hard drive at all. It may be that your RAM was damaged. If you can, try removing or replacing it and see if that changes anything.

Also, you can pick up a cable to operate the 2.5" HD as an external, USB drive. Connect it to another computer, and you should be able to run diagnostic and repair programs to deal with it.

Hi,

You cannot downgrade Windows 7 from Windows XP by not reformatting the hard drive. You need to Remove Windows 7 first, before installing Windows XP Operating System. In order to use the Windows XP CD to fully reformat the Hard drive, follow the steps on the link below.

How to reformat window xp

Reformat the Hard Drive in Windows XP
  1. To reformat a hard drive with Windows XP, insert Windows CD and restart your computer.

  2. Your computer should automatically boot from the CD to the Windows Setup Main Menu.(If not, press F2 or DEL and choose first boot device CD or DVD)

  3. At the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER.

  4. Press F8 to accept the Windows XP Licensing Agreement.

  5. If an existing Windows XP installation is detected, you are prompted to repair it. To bypass the repair, press ESC.

  6. Use the ARROW keys to select the partition or the unpartitioned space where you want to create a new partition. Press D to delete an existing partition, or press C to create a new partition.

  7. Type the size in megabytes (MB) that you want to use for the new partition, and then press ENTER, or just press ENTER to create the partition with the maximum size.

  8. Select the format option that you want to use for the partition (Recommended: NTFS), and then press ENTER.

  9. You have now sucessfully reformatted the hard drive with Windows XP.

Non system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready...when I run my windows xp disk it then tells me that they cant find my hard drive. Where would the hard drive be on a Compaq Evo N600c?...

Yes. Your laptop is far worth fixing. If you can do it yourself, open the back cover where your hard drive exists to make sure it did not get out of position (Probably due to shock during travel)

Then using a windows xp installation cd, run the laptop from the cd and when the setup screen reaches the point of "pressing enter to continue installation, or "C" for a recovery, pre C to go to the DOS prompt screen. On that screen, use the command >CHKDSK and press enter..

It should detect to disk and fix it for you. If it wont detect the disk, then probably you damaged it and need to replace it. You will have to go to a store to purchase one.

Getting a blue screen stop error, but cant log

Please try to start from the beginning and reformat the hard drive by shutting down the system with the cd drawer open. Then insert the windows disk and turn on the pc then the drawer closes and when it tells you boot from cd press enter. Then windows will load. It will give you a couple of options. Always choose format partition. Then you should not have any problems. Unless your hard drive is bad.

You cannot see HD because there are no apropriate SATA drivers included in windows XP CD. So you need to create custom windows XP installation CD

To install windows XP in that laptop u will need to create custom windows XP CD, how will you do that:

  1. Download nlite from http://www.nliteos.com/
  2. Download drivers for that laptop
  3. Download service pack 3 for windows XP
  4. Install nlite for windows XP and run
  5. Follow instructions and include SP3 for XP, all the drivers for laptop and create ISO Image
  6. Burn ISO Image
  7. Install Windows XP
  8. Good Luck

T30 wont reformat

Sounds like you have a faulty hard drive. Can you see or detect the hard drive in the BIOS? To test the hard drive, remove it from the laptop and connect it to a USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees it as an external hard drive and you can open the various folders and files, then it os OK and the fault is in the laptop. If the hard drive is faulty, then you need to replace the hard drive in the laptop and install Windows to get the laptop working again.

My acer aspire 5310 gives blue death screen (Bad pool caller) plus it does not detect the hard drive

If you are getting a blue screen in your Windows operating system that says something about a bad pool caller, you are in for a tough ride. The bad pool caller error means that some piece of software somewhere on your computer has done something wrong. For this reason it is important to write down the error codes that you receive with this message to help in determining what exactly is going on.If you have successfully been able to record these error codes in some way and have access to a computer that is working, the best place to start is on the Microsoft website. Once you get to their website, try entering the error codes that you have written down to see if they can give you more detailed information about the software that is causing the problem and any possible solutions to correct the issue. If you have not been able to find a solution to your bad pool caller error using the above method, then there are a few things that you can try. Often a hardware device can also cause problems that result in the bad pool caller error message, especially USB devices. Start by removing all of your peripherals including printers, scanners, external modems, USB hubs, etc. if you do not receive the error message once you have done this, then add one device back at a time, until you find the source of your problem. If this works and you know what device was causing the issue, you can try reinstalling the software for that device or replacing the USB cable that is connected to that device to see if that will solve the problem. If the problem still persists, it would be a good idea to run MemTest86, which can be downloaded online, to test your RAM for errors. A bad hard drive can also result in bad pool caller messages. If you have recently purchased your computer or have warranty on your computer, perhaps the easiest way to deal with this difficult problem is to take it back to them. Because of the nature of a bad pool caller message, which can be caused by almost anything, it is easier to have them deal with it rather than trying to isolate and correct the issue on your own.If you have built your own computer or are working on an older computer that no longer has a warranty, then you may also be able to get some clues into what is causing the problem by looking through the Windows Event Viewer for error messages or information. If you do not know how to do this, then a quick search online will explain how things are logged in the Event Viewer and how to interpret the information provided. Finally if all else fails and you are sure the problem is not related to a peripheral or other hardware device, then you can reload the Windows operating system on your computer. This can be done without losing your personal data and files, but be sure that you perform a complete backup before attempting this step just in case. There are the odd situations in which a bad pool caller error will occur during the installation of Windows in which case you will need to try and completely reformat your hard drive and start from scratch.
