Question about Whirlpool LER5636P Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Maytag LDG 712 shuts off before clothes are dry.

My trusty old Maytag LDG 712 is shutting down before the clothes are dry. The dryer will restart immediately so I do not suspect a motor overheat.

Sometimes the dryer will run for 20 minutes or more before shutting down other times it shuts down within a few minutes.

The dryer is used in the Electronic Dry mode most of the time, but it seems to shut down in Timed Dry also.

What parts can I replace to remedy this problem. I would like to begin with the most common part and work from there since the dry does dry the clothes eventually with repeated restarts.

If you know the parts needing to be replaced would you please give me enough information that I can order these parts.

Thanks in advance for your help.

First, The most common part would be the over limit safety, it will be mounted to the element housing. Second, there is a thermal fuse usually a small disk with a little fuse inside. You can find these (with your model no.) at www.Repairclinic.com .Good luck.

It could have a faulty thermostat which shuts down to fast in drying mode, be sure and check that the vent is clear and not obstructed at all, thats the only way moisture has to leave the machine and dry the clothes

You vent could be the problem. Snow blocking the vent can cause the dryer heat to shut down rapidly. Make sure your vent is open to the outside. Get some windex and clean them moisture sensors inside the machine. If a film developes on them then moisture cannot be detected by the control. It might think the clothes are dry and shut her down. Heats and runs, but not long enough to dry clothes; then would not turn on and run at all. maybe dryer ''thinks'' clothes are dry?

Hi, After the dryer shuts off, can you restart it right away or does it need to cool down before restarting? If it needs to cool down for a bit, the motor is going bad. If the dryer is running a full cycle but not completely dry, check your venting to the outside and make sure it is clean.
If this is a gas dryer, the coils on top the gas valve might be shutting down early and not reopening later in the heat cycle.
I hope this gives you some direction. Please let me knwo if I can assist you further on this problem

Maytag dryer wont shut off

Is it an auto sensor shut off? If so, it may be that your hose is plugged and so actually takes that long to dry the clothes.

Maytag dryer not heating up thus not drying clothes

This is usually a simple heating coil malfunction. The coil may have breaks in it causing it not to work. It could also have something to do with 1 of several heating sensors that may be broken, telling the dryer's heating coil that the dryer is too hot, in effect turning off the heating coil. If your dryer has a round lint filter in the rear of the drum, it was 1 of 2 models of Dependable care dryers produced in the 1970's. If this is the case, i supose it would be up to you whether you want to try and get it repaired or not. If you have one of the more recent models,,, the lint filter is directly behind the door, at the front of the drum. and in this case it would probably be a good idea to get it looked at it as Maytag is a relatively dependable brand.
