Print a self-test page and see if it is darker:
    When printing a self-test/configuration
report from the printer control panel, the product runs a self-test and
prints the results. To print a self-test/configuration report, use the
    following steps:

    1. Verify that the printer is in the Ready
      state.

    2. Press and release the GO
      button.

    3. The self-test/configuration page will print out on the HP LaserJet 1200 series product.
If it is, there's a configuration issue on your computer. There's a toner issue.

    Also, according to HP:

    ISSUE:

    After installing a new print
cartridge into any HP LaserJet series printer, print output is lighter
than expected. Older print cartridges continue to print with the
    desired darkness.

    SOLUTION:

    Verify that the print
cartridge is a new HP LaserJet print cartridge supported by the
printer. It takes roughly fifty copies of print before there is
sufficient charge to attract toner to the toner drum. The toner will
gradually start to appear darker on the page as the charge to the drum
    increases.

If you have installed the toner cartridge correctly then it is a hardware problem called the Fuser and is the most common problem with printers...the fuser is a part of the printer which actually melts the toner onto the paper. The fuser has to get up to a high enough temperature to be able to melt the toner, if it is malfunctioning then it cannot give you a dark print. You may search google for Fuser information: Recommendation is change out fuser to repair problem. Pls rate this solution.

You need to print the configuration page. Scroll through the menus on the printer until you find administration, then select reports and then configuration page. The engine cycles will appear in the upper left hand side of the first page that prints.

Hp laserjet 1200 series printer with high pitch nose when in printing process. During this loud noise, the roller turns but the paper is not picked up therefore printing does not occur.

noise is caused by the toner cartridge and paper is not going trough because there is a plastic milar clse to the feed roller that is bent, find it and push it towards the inside of printer (is a black or dark brown plastic mylar)

How do I adjust the darkness of the printing, it is currently set at 2 out of 4 darkness?

You will need to follow below process.
Print quality settings always affects on print resolution and toner usage.
to change print quality setting:
1. go to Start/settings/control panel/printers
2. then go to printer's properties.
3. go to paper/quality TAB. and select the setting that you want to use. you will get following options.
a) 1200 dpi: This setting uses ProRes 1200 to provide fine-line detail at 1200 x 1200 dpi.
b) 1200 dpi effective output quality: This setting uses ProRes 1200 to provide fine-line detail at 1200 x 1200 dpi.
c) 600 dpi: This setting provides 600 x 600 dpi output with Resolution Enhancement technology (REt) for improved text. (this is what you may need to get)
d) Economode: this settings use less toner of your printer. This is useful for mostly draft printings. You can turn this button on freely of other printing-quality settings.

Select the needed settings. Test a print.
And if it is perfect you wont be charge to give recommendation...lol

Can't figure out how to adjust darkness/tone for printer output

Hi,
Below you can see a step by step procedure on how to change the print quality of your work....you need to make test printouts in order for you to see the results....at the end there is a link to the manual for your printer...GOOD LUCK!!!

Print-quality settings affect print resolution and toner usage.
Use the following procedure to change print-quality settings:
1. Open the printer Properties (or Printing Preferences in Windows 2000 and XP).
2. On the Paper/Quality tab or the Finishing tab (the Paper Type/Quality tab for some Mac drivers),
select the print quality setting you want to use. The following options are available:
● 1200 dpi: This setting uses ProRes 1200 to provide fine-line detail at 1200 x 1200 dpi.
● 1200 dpi effective output quality: This setting provides 1200 dpi effective output quality
using FastRes 1200.
● 600 dpi: This setting provides 600 x 600 dpi output with Resolution Enhancement technology
(REt) for improved text.
● EconoMode: Text is printed using less toner. This setting is useful when you are printing
drafts. You can turn on this option independently of other print-quality settings.
