Question about Garden

1 Answer

No drive I have an MTD JE150/92A - small garden tractor. It has lost drive in both directions. When I select (f)orward the engine note changes and I get smoke appearing from around the area of the drive belts at the front. When I select (N)utral there is still a change in engine tone when I push the speed adjuster/accelerator pedal. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Could be serious, such as a broken ring or valve issue. Also, could be relatively minor. Might have gas seeping into the crankcase. How full was the oil when checked? Did it look like it was thin and runny, like diluted with gas? If so, change it and put the correct amount of oil in the engine. Run some fuel line cleaner, such as gumout or SeaFoam in the gas tank (about 1/4 cup). That may help the issue of the gas flowing thru the carb and into the crankcase.

Mtd snow blower,8hp 2 stage, 1995, Problem: oil leaking on axles, and on casing wear axle come out.wheel stop turning , no gear selection. could you direct me ???

The oil leak normaly would make the 'friction disc' inside the frame slip so as to not drive the axle.
Locate the oil leak
#1 engine crankshaft seal
#2 engine crankcase cover gasket
#3 engine overfull so that the excess oil is coming out of the crankcase breather tube and running down inside the frame

Replace drive belt 2004 troy bilt garden tractor 54'' Big Red

Not an easy fix. There are likely 2 belts which should be replaced as a pair. Engine pulley must be lowered to remove long belt. Pay special attention to belt routing. Most times small belt requires removal of transmission pulley. Good Luck.

Engin fogs the neiborhood with air filter on.

Sounds like it's pulling oil by the rings/valves -- the air filter is creating more suction. I would try a small amount of an oil additive for high mileage engines. Follow the mixing/proportion directions on the bottle. Sounds like this engine is "wearing out".
