After Shutting itself off it won't come on

I have a emachines t5212 that is only a couple of years old. This machine has had no problems in the past except a noisy fan. It shut itself off completely a couple of times. I have been using it a while and thought it had overheated. I left it off for a while and came back later and it would not come on at all. It was like it wasn't even plugged in. What could be the problem?

    It's a desktop--one of the etowers.

It was the power supply. I changed it out and the computer is as good as new. I also vacuumed lint out the fan; it helped with the noise some.

Hi there.

Do you know if the noisey fan was coming from the CPU, or the power supply unit? You can try using another power supply unit, in case it was that, that has burned-out. If it was your heatsink fan from your CPU, then it may have burned-out your processor. You can try putting some more thermal grease on the heatsink, to see if this works.

Though if your not getting any power at all, I would go with the power supply unit. Worst case scenario would be that your motherboard has blown.

Sorry it may not be good news. Try the other things first, and let me know how you get on.

Can you check now the noisy fan. Could be stuck already. If this is cpu thermal protection shutdown. Then replaced the fan with a new one.

Very sorry about your son.

If you can't find the real problem, you can always put that hard drive into another PC to get the files. If so, be sure to looking to a potential "jumper" setting on that drive for it to be recognized.
