Are you sure? The model number you provided is for a direct-drive Kenmore top loader with the exact motor coupling part number you provided. I just looked it up and confirmed it. That's what my instructions were for - a Direct Drive.

No...the model you have listed does not have a belt. Hence, the name "direct drive". The motor coupling takes the place of a drive belt and directly couples the drive motor to the transmission. The pieces you are taking about about could be the rubber bushing of the coupler if it sheared apart.

Congratulations on repairing your washer. I'm glad I was able to assist you. If my advice helped guide you to a successful repair, why only the "helpful" rating?

I wasn't trying to be petty. I was just wondering if there was something I failed to provide you answers with. If you need any assistance with your washer in the future, please keep me in mind. Good luck to you and I hope you get some good years out of the repairs you made. Thank you.

Washer won't aggitage or spin

Kenmore washers use a coupler to attach the motor shaft to the transmission. The coupler is designed to shear off to protect the motor.Often the repair is to replace the coupler (sears part # 285753A, $18.50) If you flip the washer over you can visually verify that the coupler is broken.Disconnect the hoses to the water pump by removing the hose clamp). Then remove the two small screws holding two clips, called retainers that attach the motor to the transmission. the two assemblies will separate at the coupler.

I need to replace the motor drive coupler 285753A in my top loading kenmore washer -- can you give me instructions

This is a relatively easy fix for the basic Kenmore / Whirlpool washers.

Please see GURU JSROCK516 Description of how to remove cabinet and access the transmission.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase

Follow the instructions for removing the cabinet and pulling the pump, motor and motor mounting plate.

The coupler has two plastic pieces with three prongs each. In between is the rubber coupler with six holes.

Pry the plastic pieces from the motor and transmission. Some people use a claw hammer but I've found that using a small (6 inch) pry bar works well.

Carefully fit the plastic pieces over the motor and transmission shafts and press them in place (Use a 1/2" of larger socket to put pressure equally around the pieces.

Put the rubber piece on the transmission plastic piece.

Replace the motor mounting plate.

Carefully line up the plastic prongs on the motor based plastic piece to the three un-used holes in the rubber piece. If they don't line up right, the coupler could be damaged.

Mount the motor, don't forget the two screws, put the pump back on the motor and use its' clips.

Put the cabinet back on, don't forget to plug the lid switch back in and re-mount the console.

Check the motor coupling. Remove the cabinet, pump and motor and see if the coupling (designed to break if the transmission or motor jams) is broken. Check the Sears site

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=11020802990

for part number :
pd_0026_110_285753a?$pddetailsth$ #13 on diagram Coupling, motor Number:3364003Substitution:285753A $18.50 In stock Quantity Add To Cart
Manufacturer authorized substitution: 285753A may differ in appearance, but is a functional equivalent to prior parts including 3364003. If it isn't the coupler, it most likely is the motor.

Kenmore 70 series washer, clothes are soaking wet after spinning

If it fill and motor runs but will not agitate it likely is the coupler. If you have the cabinet off and see the motor here is what you do.
there are 2 metal straps that attach the motor to the transmission. take the screws out that hold the straps on and pop the straps out of their slots. the motor will then come off and the coupler is between the motor and transmission. One section goes on motor shaft and one on the transmission shaft with rubber bushing in between.
Coupler part number is 285753A

Mid-cycle my washing machine stopped working.

Could be one of three issues, timer, capacitor, or the most like canidate the motor assm. Usually 90% of the time, its that motor. Those motors are pretty expensive (part number 389248) and you need to replace motor coupler (part number 285753A) when you change it.
