Question about 3Com OfficeConnect TP800 8-Port Ethernet Hub (3c16722n)

1 Answer

Networking WXP Pro no IE connection or network capability.

I have elemenated the possibility of cabling The system has be checked by dell and for safe measure the system board has been replace. The nic is a broadcom 440 intergegrated controller 10/100. In the main location I have no problem with the system. If I take it to secondary loacation I have no network/IE connection and yet the system shows my network is up and connected. I have another computer at that location and it works fine on all ports in that office. The working computer does not use the integrated nic card but has instead a 3com Etherlink XL 10/100. The hub that this off-site uses is a 3com Ethernet Hub connecting it to the in-house site. I have been on line with Charter communications for hours as well as dell and they can find nothing yet it will not connect at the secondary loacation. What are the possibilities I need to disable the Broadcom and put in a 3com. Do you think I have a compatibility problem? Thoughts please. Thank you so much, Lotsip

Maybe a problem with 10/100 or Full/half duplex settings? Try changing them

Help me to connect 2 dell computers with cables

The easiest method of connecting any computers is to use a router which will also provide a DHCP server component to serve up local TCPIP addresses to each connected computer.

To connect to the router you would need standard ethernet cables which are available widely and which would plug into the network port of the computer and the other end into the port on the router. You need one cable for each computer to router connection.

If you have computers with WiFi / wireless capability, then you would need a wireless router and could then connect without the need for cables.

Take a look at the Practically Networked web site which has revies of various types of routers and also provides tutorials on networking and other related subjects which would help you.

My dell Optiplex GX-620 But my lan indicator was always green flashing but now Its red all the time. please give me th sol

Red would be no signal.

1. Check network cable (try a different cable).
2. What is connected at the other end? Hub? Switch? Modem? Does the other equipment also have lights?
3. Check the settings in the operating system / driver. Select "Auto" for link type and speed. Use manufacturers defaults if possible.
4. Uninstall the network card driver, reboot, re-install the network card driver

Good luck!

I have just 2 computers currently connected to my Dell Power connect 2124...One is accessing the internet just fine but the other cannot acquire an ip.....I put new ends on the cable but stll no soultion

I assume you have connected your switch to any broadband router and then trying to access multiple systems at the sametime.
This is not possible if NAT (Network Address Translation) is not enabled on your broadband router.

My computer comes on n gives me an error message saying UNDI Intialized failed, no media detected.

Hi, UNDI is a shorthand for Universal Network Driver Interface.
CAUSE OF ERROR: It sounds as if you are having some trouble with your NIC {Network Interface Card}.This error message can occur if no network adapter is detected in your computer or if no connection to the network is detected when the network adapter is initialized.
RESOLUTION: To resolve this issue, perform network troubleshooting on the hardware.Check the network adapter cable, cable type, hub, router and so on.Also check the computer's BIOS settings to make sure that the network adapter is disabled.Try logging in safe mode and then disable your NIC in control panel.Reboot and see if that solves the problem. If it does you can start looking around for an updated driver or perhaps a new card.Enter the safe mode by pressing the F8 keywhile booting up. Also try doing a system restoreto a earlier point. This also fix your problem.
Thanks for using fixya....Best Wishes...Wish you a happy New year..

I cant conect to the intornet. im using cable can u help mi.

First thing is check and see if you have a valid IP address (Start, run, CMD enter) type (IPCONFIG /All ) this will give you the IP address information. If result of IP address is 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.x.x then you don't have connectivity with your broadband connection (Bad Cable, Bad NIC, Other communication issue etc)
If no valid IP address, the 1st thing is to power off system, power off any router you may be using and power off the broadband modem. Wait 3 minutes. Power on broadband modem, wait a minute to let it reset, power on Router (If you have one) wait a minute for it to reset, power on system and test your connection. If no change, try a different computer at that connection see if it can access the internet. If another system works, it is likely the Network Interface Card (NIC) which on a Dimension 2400 is part of the motherboard (Buy a PCI NIC for $10)
If you have a valid IP address, boot to the safe mode with networking (F8 at boot) then see if you can connect, if so then your issue is software based (Firewall, security software, possible virus) If it doesn't connect then there could be issue with your TCP/IP protocol settings. If you can't connect in safe mode with net, reboot to normal mode, then right-click your local area network connection and click REPAIR and see if that doesn't resolve. If no change try an anti-malware program like Malwarebytes

My mouse/touchpad is unresponsive when LAN cable is connected

try booting in safe mode. restart laptop keep tapping f8 then boot safe mode with networking. once you booted to safe mode with networking try plugging in the ethernet cable to the lan port check if it still freezes the touchpad mouse pointer. if not then try to ran full system scan antivirus and check running programs on startup that might cause the conflict. if the problem exist in safe mode with networking download the latest bios for your system.

Dell 4700 Computer Integrated NIC Problem

Check for the pins inside the integrated NIC to check if the pins are bent / disfigured. Does not look like the additional card is making any different, looks more like a moving NIC cable is makin the difference.
