My dryer is a model number GLER341AS2 and when I turn it on it makes a sreeching noise. Now the screeching has turned into a louder noise almost like a rubbing thud.

The symptoms you describe indicate that your dryer drum bearings are faulty: there is usually a large 'felt' bearing around the opening which support the drum and prevent metal to metal contact (screeching noises)- The drum must be removed to get to this front bearing (which is normally glue to the dryer front panel at the drum opening): it is not a trivial job and is not normally replaceable by end-users.

Hope the explanation helps.

Obnoxious screeching sound when the drum turns. Short consistent screech on revolution, which turns into one long non-stop screech. Stops after 45 seconds or so, then starts all over again with longer...

Dryer turns and heats, but makes a very loud squeaking (or should I say, SCREECHING) noise. The heavier the load, the louder the squeaking.

Does it sound like a belt ?
Or does it sound like metal ?
Might need to replace the drive belt..
Or - it could be the bearings..

Hope this helps !!

Screeching Drum

My machine did exactly the same thing until the belt snapped - and it's a very painful noise!! I'm about to replace my belt and if this solves the problem I'll let you know.

your belt is probably broken, or your motor is bad, the motor and belt not only turn the drum, but also the fan that moves air out of your dryer so if it cannot move, the dryer gets hot and it thinks this is because the lint trap is full

Screechy Dryer

Hi yes i have a candy 6kg tumble dryer. It also screeches when turning. I have taken it apart and found its the bracket at the bottom holding the drum. It has deformed due to the weight of the drum and also the wet clothes added to it increases the pressure on this bracket. Dont know if its a design fault or really how to fix the problem?. Any solutions would be most welcome..
