Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Water accumulation in the bottom of our refrigerator

Our refrigerator is a ET18VK top freezer. we got it with our house, where we've lived for the past 17 years. lately we've noticed an accumulation of water in the very bottom, below the produce drawers. I sponged up about a quart of it today. What could be the cause of this?

There is a drain line on the back of the refrigerator. Trace it out to find where it empties into the drain pan on the bottom behind the grill. Take a piece of stiff wire (coat hanger) and gently push through it to remove any blockage.

There is a drain in the freezer in the back under the evaporator coil. If you are accumulating water in the freezer then the drain hole is plugged with ice or material. you will probably have to pull the cover in the back, then clear the obstruction and pour some hot water down it. The water will drain down to a pan under the unitwhere it is supposed togo. good luck!

Started leaking water accumulated on bottom shelf in lower level. now top freezer takes 2 days to freeze ice, bottom freezer vent clogged.

The drain is clogged. When the drain clogs it can also clogs the airflow vents. Remove the back wall of the freezer to access the drain. Remove all the ice blocking the drain and the vents. Then use a trukey baser to force hot water down the drain until water flows freely. Then mix water with baken soda and pour it down the drain. http://www.appliance-repair-it.com/refrigerator-leaking.html

Water accumulating in bottom of freezer and leaking onto floor

Yes the drain is clogged and the water that supouse to go through became ice so it make it worse.Put hot water in the drain hole until it runs through,it'll go to an evaporative pan on top of the compresor to keep it warm and vaporize the water.

It appears the defrost drain inside freezer is blocked or the drain tube leading to pan near compressor is clogged I would unplug refrigerator and remove the back panel in freezer to examine the drain and get back with me to let me know what you find, also get model number for your refrigerator so I can help you better. Sea Breeze Look at following areas for the model number
  • Beneath Or Inside Food Compartment On Cabinet Frame
  • On Plate Lower Front Or Rear Of Cabinet
  • Beside Compressor Door On Right End
  • Near Rear Of Cabinet
  • Inside Liner At Top
