I turned my akai pt 5598 off last night and this morning it would not turn on. The led power lamp only lights when I turn on the tv with the remote in the vcr setting. Either case there is no blue screen and I can't pull up the menu. I am not technically adept but I can effect a repair if it is unplug and replace. Thank you for any assistance.

Re: akai pt 5598
So the screen shows nothing, you just see an LED?
It's likely just a burnt out bulb in the projector lamp. These should be easy to check and replace, it's really no different than changing a lightbulb in a lamp.

Check the bulb again and look at the root of where the main stem comes out inside and be sure you don't see any bubble like appearence around the stem at the bottom there. If you do see this then the bulb is bad. Otherwise try this: Hold volume down on front of unit and pip on remote for about 5 seconds. Message will come on screen that timer has been reset to zero. This sets the lamp timer to 0
Now,tv on?.Tv "LAMP" LED light indication flashes or stay on?How long the Lamp been inside this tv,been inside like 1 1/2 or 2 years and tv been on each day like 4 or 5 hours a day in used. The lamp life are over.Should replace another lamp.
Time to get a new TV. I have similar problem. In my case, the set turns off, LED blinking green for about a minute or 2, then the set will turn on by itself. Something the LED started to blink yellow after blinking green and then shuts off. I can turn it back on. This happens 3 or 4 times in an hour. After that, the TV stays on for as many hours as I want until I shut it off.
And then the problem repeats everytime I turn it on from a cold start.
I have my eyes on the 50 inch Plasma from Panasonic. Bestbuy has one for 999.99.
You very well could have problem with the Ballast board that powers Lamp or your Lamp Fan maybe defective and if you need orinagnal hand unit for set Call Encompass Parts Distrubtion or Go to their website type in Model number they will list Parts /Prices for your model.

if this does not work try it in reverse Hold Menu down on TV and Vol- on hand unit. Check your Lamp Fan see if it quits running while turning set on,if it starts and stops it is defective, other wise Follow wires that Lamp plugs into it will connect to Ballast board that powers Lamp CK it Problem M/B Ballast Board.
The Solution posted by "Guest" on March 18 2008 worked exactly as he said it would. The part was delayed a week or so due to back order, but it arrived yesterday and, once installed, fixed the problem for under $100. THANKS "GUEST"!!!
Sounds as you have a bad ballest. The ballest is the power supply that turns your lamp on.
You can check your lamp by removing it and it should be clear and no broken pieces of glass.
With the lamp removed install the cover and turn it on you should hear no noise and when the power light turns red you should see a LAMP red led blink every 5 seconds. If no noise then the lamp is bad. If you do hear noise you have a bad ballist.
Hope this helps.
