Its been a while since i've owned a dreamcast. My suggestion wouild be to make sure the parts on the inside are clean.Game consoles are known to collect a lot of dust over a long period of time.I would wipe it down with acohol, since it drys fast and leaves no residue.Your reset button might not be getting a connection.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

This is probably the most ridiculous thread I've ever read in regards to the most common fault of the Sega Dreamcast. The issue is not with the laser - if it was unable to read the disc, it wouldn't read the disc.
The issue is actually with the pins that connect to the motherboard. They corrode and burn out over time. This can be fixed by cleaning with a high percentage alcohol.
Make sure you have unplugged and turned off the console for a couple of hours beforehand.
And before you open it up, press the on button to check for any remaining power.

Hi,

Sounds like your dreamcast is getting cut of from its power, the dreamcast sometimes gets a build of of dirt around the power connector pins that supplies the entire unit with power, try this youtube guide here for cleaning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rizeLEQyzs&feature=related you don't need to do the bending section of the pins. just clean them and the actually plastic socket section where the pins go in.

Grandia II Dreamcast hangs after battle

Seeing as the game hangs after the sequence and not after doing a specific thing then I would call it a reading error rather than a glitch.

All I can say is to check your discs for deep scratchs and smudges and to give the game disc a good cleaning.

Disc based game media commonly has this problem of hanging in very random areas and sometimes even odd artifacts, though that is usually rare.

Also some game shops have disc rebuffering services and can be worth it despite the cost.

Also a chance the Dreamcast's laser is malfunctioning, check other games for simular problems that are known for running fine.
This problem is usually rare with good care however and shouldn't be the case.

I suggest cleaning and possibly getting the disc rebuffered if all else fails as this appears to be a common disc reading error.

Freezing problem with Games

The Dreamcast is no longer supported because it was to easy to copy the games, but there are still a loyal few who keep the scene alive. I have no idea how much you want to put into fixing the problem, but the only way to fix your problem is flashing the Dreamcast BIOS.

The Dreamcast is basically a computer; with the right programming you can do anything; and having a Dreamcast Keyboard is nice.

DC stops and starts games periodically

~Open up the dreamcast
~remove the Powerboard (located to the left houses power supply)
~get baby wipes or facial wipes and clean the pins
~dry with toilet paper
~put it all back together

That will fix it ^_^. i had this problem as well and didn't play my DC for years then i stumbled on a youtube video and now it works great never restarts. have fun playing old games again.
