On power up, it does the RAM check, then INITIALIZING. After about 30 sec it displays 'ERR 173' and the number 050914 cycles through on the second display line.
what does this error code mean or where can I find a list of all the error codes for this Oki B4300?

That error means low temperature on the heat roller. The thermistor (something like an electric thermostat) measures the amount of heat needed to work. Error 173 refers a lower temperature than required, while error 172 refers overheat. The complete error list will be of no use to you, since most errors will refer you to an authorized service center.

Do you mean the LCD display is not responding , or that the number keys do not work, or both? I suspect that the keypad and display do work but your real issue is that you cannot enter service mode to reset an error code. Entering service mode can be a little tricky on that model. Hit *(Add. Functions, not the * on the keypad). So , to review, * then the 2 and 8 key simultaneously, then * again will get you into service mode. A screen will pop up that says Copier and other stuff. Select Copier. Then hit function tab at top of display. Then Select Clear (CLR) Then Error(ERR) then hit ok at the bottom of display. Then cycle power, if the error resets, you are done. If the error comes back, you need a part. Important----do not randomly clear any other items in service mode. You can cause a lot of problems if you do. Only clear that error code. Hope that helped. If not, you need to call a technician.

When a machine is in sleep mode and is recovered an error code
"E003-0000" was displayed.
It is caused during the fixing temperature control at
recovery from sleep mode, electrical noise affected the thermistor.
In order to increase the length of time for idle rotation of the drum (by 30
sec) at start-up and prevent electrical noise from affecting the thermistor,
make the following selection:
Service mode (Level 2)> COPIER> OPTION> BODY> DRM-IDL = change the
setting to '3'
Note: The length of time for idle rotation is being increased by 30 sec.
This mode will delay start of the machine by 30 sec.

E003-0000 Error Code can be displayed when the reading of the main thermistor
is below 70 deg. C for 2 sec. after it has exceeded 100 deg. C.
1. Although the fixing heater or the temperature-detecting thermistor may be
faulty, before replacing these parts, check J508 on the DC controller PCB for
poor contact and refit it if necessary.
2. Make the following selections to clear the error code: [Service mode >
COPIER > Function > CLEAR > ERR > OK]
the code is related to the fuser section.If the machine is new then enter the service mode by pressing additional function and then * and clear it in error clear ,
if it is old machine then check the fuser for open thermistor,broken element .
The all-in-one product display always reads "Initializing"
This may occur in a low power situation. Follow these steps in order to determine the cause:
Verify that the computer and the all-in-one product have a three-prong power plug.
the product cable from any power strips or surge suppressors, and plug
it directly into a grounded (three-prong) wall outlet.
If the all-in-one has an ADF with an external cable plugging into the back of the product:
Turn off the unit.
Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet.
Unplug the ADF cable from the back of the product.
Plug the ADF cable to the back of the product.
Plug in the power cable, and turn on the power.
If no change, the problem is not the ADF.
If the problem clears, turn off the all-in-one, unplug the power cable, and plug in the ADF.
If the error returns, the ADF is defective. Contact HP Customer Care to get the ADF replaced.
the USB or parallel communication cable from the back of the all-in-one
and try to power up the all-in-one. The computer may be grounding out
through the communications cable. If this corrects the issue, check the
grounding of the computer and outlet.
If the above steps did not resolve your issue, contact HP for additional issue verification or the servicing of your product.
E000001-0002 refers to the fuser assy either getting to hot or not hot enough. Fuser error codes cannot be reset by power cycling the machine even though that is what the display tells you to do. In order to reset the fuser error code you must enter the service mode & reset the code. To enter the service mode:
press"Additional Functions" button (looks like a picture of a head with a star inside)
press the #2 and #8 at the same time (simultaneousley)
press "additional functions" again
The display should show a choice of
copier,feeder,sorter,fax,or board service modes
Turn power off & back on.
After clearing error stay at the machine to see if it comes to ready. The fuser assy can reach 139 degrees C.(Water boils @ 100C) The error can only be cleared through the service mode because a technician should inspect the fuser to verify there is nothing faulty that could possibly start a fire. If you enter the service mode & clear the error, power cycle the machine & during warm up the machine throws a code again- turn it off, unplug it & call a tech for fuser repair.
