Acer 5920 Edata Security problem

Well after uninstalling edata security and empowering technology due to the malfunctioning thingy, i reinstalled it but while installing the eData security it says that the other version of it is interfering so it cant finish. I dont know why because i have already uininstalled it ive checked too, maybes it got to do with the registry? Is there another way to retrieving the files from my PSD without using that program. Those files are very important to me i stayed up all night trying to find an answer to fix this ><. So thank you if you can help.

The product Acer eDataSecurity Management 2.5. 4241 installed, preventing the installation of this product. The two products are incompatible.

  • lam1900 Apr 22, 2009

any version that of edata security that i try to install, but the version im trying to install now is eDataSecurity_Acer_v2.8_4361_Vista(SP1), which i found on the acer site under my model and vista home premium 32x.

Hi there.

There is possibly something still in your registry. Go to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/default.htm

If you are running XP, click on Full Service Scan, if you are running Vista, then click on the beta version. This is a Safety Scanner from Microsoft, that will run a varied range of scans, including cleaning the registry. Once this has finished, reboot, and then try to install eDataSecurity.

Let me know you get on.

Just to clarify, eDataSecurity Management 2.5. 4241, is incompatable with which program?

  • Timothy Farley Apr 22, 2009

Fair enough. It's quite strange though, as I have an Aspire myself with Vista SP1, and I've never had a problem with eDataSecurity, old or new. Shame I couldn't be of more help.

Just an afterthought, how did you update to Service Pack 1?

  • Timothy Farley Apr 22, 2009

Sorry it's taken awhile to reply.

You need to know if you have Service Pack 1 installed, as there is a different driver. You can quite easily check this.

If you open your Control Panel, click on System and Maintenance, then click on System. The window you should be looking at now should be, View basic information about your computer. The part underneath that will tell you your Windows edition, looking like this:

    Windows Vista Home Premium

Copyright 2007 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

    Service Pack 1

    Upgrade Windows Vista

I have put the SP in bold, as this is what your looking for. If it's there, then you are running Vista SP1, if it's not listed, then you are running just Vista.

The reason I asked you how you upgraded, was 1) Just in case you were trying to install the wrong driver, and 2) There have been a few reported problems/kinks with the Service Pack 1 that was installed via Windows Update.

Let me know what you find, as there are still a couple of things we can try.

  • Timothy Farley Apr 23, 2009

    Ok, no problem.

Just a tip for if and when you decide to update to SP1.

Do NOT download Service Pack 1 from Windows Update.

Please use the link I have provided below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...

Both Vista SP1 and XP SP3, have, at times, not updated/installed everything that you actually need. This is due to the way Windows Update searches your system, and for some strange reason, can give a false report. As it may not download a certain update/driver because it thinks you already have it.

The link I provided, is the Vista SP1 standalone version (full version). It is quite a large file, 434 MB, but at least you'll know that you'll have everything updated/installed that you need.

    Hope it goes well.

How to reinstall the acer edata security data management.

To reboot the system click on Start and then on the shutdown menu choose restart or shutdown.
If this error happens with a bluescreen and white writing then you will have to press the power button for about 5 seconds to force it to shutdown.
To reinstall the eData software use the Acer software CD that came with your computer to reinstall it or download it from Acer :
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5520.html

Select it from the Empowering Technology and Utilities section.

Acer eData Security Management

I have searched the Acer website and the user guide for your model and can find no reference to the edata software referenced. I think that a system restore is what you need. Per the manual press alt-f10 to enter the utilities and create a system restore cd and an application restore cd reboot with the system cd and restore the computer to a factory fresh condition. Remember that no user data will be saved so if you have documents or pictures etc. make a copy first. Good Luck
