Question about Chamberlain Powerdrive PD422D 1/2 HP Security Plus Screw Drive Garage Door Opener

1 Answer

Garage door opens by itself

I have come home now a couple of times to find my garage door opened by itself. It was closed when I left the house. Am I on a similar frequency to my neighbors? or is something shorting? We can come home and find the garage door all the way open or open just 6" or so. Hitting the wall switch closes the door. This occurs intermittently.

Liftmaster 3265M Garage Door Opener opens on its own

Sounds like one of your neighbors may have recently replaced their own garage door opener and it coincidentally operates in the same frequency band as yours. One of them may also have purchased a new car and recently programmed it to open their door, but it inadvertantly interferes with yours. Depending on the quality of your door opener's receiver and how old it is, some receivers are not as good as others in their ability to discriminate against similar transmitted codes in the same frequency band. When the door opens by itself immediately go outside and see if a neighbor's door has just been opened (or closed) at the same time. Does your door open by itself at similar times during day? Like when a neighbor might be leaving or returning home from work? When someone uses a remote to close their garage door when leaving home, they (and the remote) are usually located in their driveway, but when they use it to open the door upon arriving home, they might be located right in front of your house.

How do i program my garage door to open with my car garage opener button

Push and hold the two outer buttons until the LED flashes fast Approx (15 seconds) then hold your garage opener up to the mirror or visor and push and hold any button 3 or 4 seconds on the opener Now the Home Link is programed. With the car safely away from the closing garage door find and push the garage openers red programming button (on the motor assembly somewhere that gives you about 30 seconds to push your cars home link button so the garage opener learns the button you want to use for that door the other two buttons can be programed for other doors or house light controler gate opener in the same manner

Watch the door when it closes. If it is traveling too far and hits the floor the safety will cause it to reverse to the open position. This is a common cause. Also your door sensors may need adjusting. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering.

My mom & I each have a Craftsman garage door opener at our respective homes & live @ 15 minutes apart. Our openers are about 13 to 14 yrs old. The past two yrs. we've both had the same problem. ...

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure both lights on the sensors stay on and don't flicker while the door is moving and the sensors are firmly attached so they don't move. Tweak them just a bit.

In most cases, when a garage door opens or closes by itself, or when you find your door open, upon returning home, the problem is due to a short somewhere. This short is most likely to be in one of two places: either in one of your transmitters or in the wall button or its wiring.
When there is a short in your garage door transmitter, you will often find the garage door is up upon returning home, even though you know you closed the door when you left the house. A short in your transmitter causes a continues signal to be sent. As you are pulling out of the driveway the garage door closes fully and appears to stop, but as the carriage and arm run past the down limit and hits the header bracket it reverses, and the door begins to open, just as you start driving off down the road. You come home to find the garage door is up, as if someone else had opened your door. The best thing to do to troubleshoot the garage door problem is remove the batteries from your transmitters and try operating the door from the wall button. If the problem is intermittent, you may want to do this for a day or two to eliminate the transmitters as the culprit.
If the problem persists, try removing the wall button wire at the motor head to ensure it is not a short in the wire to the button, then try operating the garage door with the transmitters only. If it stops the problem, replace the wires and test the wall button. It is a process of elimination.
