Wireless connection problems with Acer 5050

I've been having this problem for some time, and based on various blogs i've come across, so have alot of other people. The issue revolves around the ability for the laptop to find/see a wireless network. Most of the times it can't find my network eventhough I have two other laptops accessing it with no issues. The few times it does find it, it give me the old limited connectivity flag. This is very frustrating... any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Wireless connection problems with Acer 5050

This can happen when the signal is too weak or when your pc has changed it's ip address to the default or similair if it's tried a repair of the network. Check that your network card is set to obtain ip address automatically and restart if necassary.

Break it off..........

In order to take the Base Enclosure (Bottom Cover) off, you would have to break it off.

The Acer Aspire 5000 series of Notebook PC's, disassembles from the Top down. When you are done you are looking at an empty Base Enclosure,

You have to;
Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.
Remove the Harddrive Compartment Cover, Harddrive, Memory Compartment Cover, Ram Memory, Wireless Module, Wireless Antenna wires out of laptop body, Optical Disk Drive, (DVD drive), Display Assembly, (LCD Module), Keyboard Cover, Keyboard, Palm Rest Cover, Motherboard, and so on..........

Then you have the Base Enclosure. (Bottom Cover)

WEAR an ESD wrist strap, and have it's alligator clip attached to a good ground source.

Acer Aspire 5000 series of Notebook PC > Service Manual (Free),

Go to the paragraph that starts with Aspire 1200. (1200 in Blue)
Drop down to the 6th line (4920G), scroll across; and click on the blue -> 5000

Hiya, i'm having some problems with my Acer Travelmate 2410. I'm trying to get the LAN to work. When I press the button the front for wireless, I get a 'Wireless LAN disabled'. I've...

Well usually the wireless and the non-wireless NICs are two diffenerent cards, so I would be surprised that both cards are deffective at the same time... firs you need to verify if your DHCP supplies you with an IP address when connecting, try to notice the icone close to the clock (bottom write corner of the screen) if it has a small yellow dot moving sidewaise for a long time (wired or wireless) than your computer is not receiving any IP, check if you can connect to your network with an other computer to see if it works, if not than it's not the computer that has a problem but rather your DHCP server/router... if it does work than scan your non working computer with an antivirus it is probably infected...

The cooling fan in my Acer Aspire laptop (bought 1 year ago) stopped working. Can it be replaced or is it part of the motherboard?

As stated it can be replaced. Might be the pits in finding the replacement fan, though.

Let's take a look at an Acer Aspire 5520 series laptop, as an example,

Scroll down until you come to the third photo.

Getting to the Cooling Fan in the Acer Aspire 5050 series Notebook PC's, requires a lot more disassembly, however.

The Acer Aspire 5050-3242 Notebook PC, in the category heading, is part of the Acer Aspire 5050 series of Notebook PC's.

This is the Service Manual for the Acer Aspire 5050 series of Notebook PC's,

Go to the second Aspire heading.
The one that begins with Aspire 1200.

Now go down to the 5th line, and scroll across to > 5050.
Left-click on 5050.

This is a PDF file.
The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

[ Although I would recommend upgrading to Adobe Reader 9, if it isn't on your computer ]

After you click on the file > 5050, you won't see anything happening for up to 30 seconds.

Most of the time the first page pops up within 10 seconds, and it requires additional time to fully download the file.

Suggest you let the file download all the way, before looking through it.
Watch the Download Progress bar.

You can save this file to your computer.
This way you can burn a copy to CD for safekeeping, and easy access anytime you wish.

You can also delete from your computer then, to save Harddrive space.
If you do not know how, and wish to, simply post in a Comment.

I just put XP Pro on my Acer aspire 5050 and I downloaded all the drivers and my wireless internet will not work.

If You downloaded the correct wifi drivers and still didn't get wireless...
Choose a different series... Try acer aspire 3000 wifidrivers... then Acer Aspire 5000 wifi drivers, if still no luck... Choose the acer ferrari 3000 wifi driver.. or the acer travelmate 5530 wifi driver/..

I've had alot of Acer Aspire models.. including yours... and I too would have to jump around to different models to get all correct drivers,...

Tons of problems with an acer aspire 5050

the keys I cant help with ...they could be damaged due to wear and tear or full of collected dust etc.
but the pc....
from scratch ...get a hdd recover disk...this isnt a recovery disk it repairs damaged hd..(got software package if you want it,you need to unpack contents create a bootdisk and install files to it)
bootup with repair disk in cd tray ...wait til programs start and repair bad sectors then format hd.
next remove disk insert install to c:/
when sys asks format and install select no install as is...once installed you may have to install various drivers manually....for instance on a new install wireless devices are not recognised until the drivers are installed, the same with blutooth and various modems ,quite often depending on model generic drivers for vga get installed etc a good idea is to download the wireless driver for model and save on disk then once os installed you only have to install wireless and then the rest can be downloaded when you get online.
