The machine will not allow me to do any of those things. I really could do with a workshop manual, for getting into the guts of the machine is beating me. I just can't find away to diassasemble the machine to get to the tape. Repeating the machine is a Panasonic CD Stereo System SC PM07

Sorry cannot get to tape, the machine has a powered intake and eject system that takes the tape in then lowers it down, completely out of sight and reach. To be honest I don't think anything will work because as it's jammed for some reason, the motor can't overcome the problem so it goes whirrrr click click . Wont rewind, wont fast forward, wont play. It is stuck inside. 'A real pain . Whilst I can buy a new machine, though not as nice as this machine it will be cheaper than $180.00 for a replacement Audio talking book from the local Library.

    Thanks any way

Hi,
I hope you can fix it with help of Service Manual as service manual has exploded views of mechanism and helpful information how to disassemble tape mechanism.

You can download online copy of service manual of SA-PM07 from Manual Zone for small fee.

Hit "add a comment" button for further query / info.
Thanks.

Hello,
I see you having a problem with your cassette, well thi is what I came up with:

Try pushing it in or moving it from left to right. You could also loosen it by using a screwdriver ometimes if the tape is stuck on the rotating mechanism.Best solution is to find some lose area of the cassete.

Hope this helps because it helped me.
Ask if you need more information.

Hi drake958,

Here are the most common reasons for the tape getting stuck inside the player:

ONE: Foreign object inside causing jam up with cartridge or transport mechanism. Typical is paper clip or coin inserted by child or someone playing pranks.

TWO: Cartridge itself is defective and is locked in due to its out of spec size.

THREE: Tape wound around the capstan or drive motor due to tape transport jammed or the servo motor for the tape turntables defective.

FOUR: Electrical failure of the servo drives to the tape transport mechanism.

FIVE: Transport system badly damaged or out of adjustment caused by damaging blow, drop to the floor, etc.

SIX: Combination of the above.

To remove it you can try a hard reset: Unplug the power cord for 30 minutes and try again.

In many cases the cover of the player must be removed to allow access into the mechanisms which allows determination of the cause and hopefully release of the cartridge (cassette).

You can use different ways to take out the cassette :-

  • Take a pair of needle nose pliers and a small flat head screwdriver. Put the screwdriver under the bottom and pull upon the tape with the pliers and pull it out.
  • TRY HOLDING DOWN BOTH REW & FF @ SAME TIME, OR HOLD EJECT WHILE USING PLYERS & SCREWDRIVER, (tape is prob destroyed & player will only eat more tapes U may want to think about replacement).
I hope this would be able to fix your issue.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Yes, it is hooked up using the (cassette) tape inputs and outputs. Use the tape monitor switch on the receiver to switch the EQ in or out.

did the error code start with the tape getting stuck? i have heard that if you disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes it will reset the radio but make sure you have a code for it to unlock it it the radio has security. they say it starts working again if you do this. again this is just what i have heard a toyota tech say when i worked there. it may be that it knows it has a problem with the tape and keeps it inop, as far as getting the tape out, it either breaks the tape or the tape player or both. i worked at a car stereo shop for 10 years and very rare for both to survive.

Anyone have service manual for Panasonic SA-PM18?

Yes, you have to destroy your Panasonic SA-PM 18 with a srewdriver and than meet the CD changer with a hammer. If this doesn't help you must take this changer into a box - wait a few years and than throw it in the waste. ::))
