Freezer and fridge only cold at bottom

It appears both sides are not cooling...we thought the door may have been left open on the freezer since the ice cubes all melted yesterday so we took out the food and kept it closed and today still not cooling properly. It seems to be blowing cold air on the bottom only and the top is warm on both sides.

I hope that is what you need.

I got below and cleaned out the coils...I did also notice that the seal on the fridge side has a hole in it at the bottom corner...it still seems to stick when closed but is that something that can/should be replaced?

  • massani_inve Apr 20, 2009

it seems to be working a bit better...will it take some time to catch up to speed again?

  • massani_inve Apr 20, 2009

I did pull out the drawers and noticed that the veggies and fruits were all begining to freeze....could this have been due to the coils being dirty as well?

This may be a defrost timer problem, this is the common cause of this condition.

did u notice the door seal/gaskits...is it working properly. Morover, concentrate toward the light..does it switch off while closing the door..and finally door closed..

these can be the reason at initial stage...

    check this plz..

  • SALMAN NASEER Apr 20, 2009

if all are ok then do next step....

check the coils underneath the fridge, if it require cleaning then perform this because sometimes the issue like this is caused by this part..

  • SALMAN NASEER Apr 20, 2009

by the way, is it working a little bit or not at all... if not working at all, then check the compressor itself it should vibrate means...working...BUT TAKE CARE IT CAN BE HOT....

  • SALMAN NASEER Apr 20, 2009

    dear,

what about cooling after cleaning the coils and about the hole...its in front of u so did it seem that it could cause the issue..i mean to say that if its enough to cause issue then its a different matter for replacement but first checking its cooling now and let me inform.. moreover, noitce the functionality of compressor too in parallel..

    regards,

I have a 23' free standimg dispensing side by side ref. my ref is not cooling but the freeze part is working

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer and into the fridge side, there are ducts on the bottom left side where the air return sto the freezer,if that's blocked the fridge will get warm, also if the fan is blowing depending on your model you could have a damper,it's in the fridge section up top where the cold air blows into, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the air in when the fridge section gets warm and then it closes when it's cold enough,if the damper is bad it won't open and let the air in,sometimes it gets stuck in the open position and things start to freeze in the fridge section.if you can't figure it out send the model number and i can see what model you have, open the fridge door, look up on the right side near the ceiling and you should see a tag with the model number.good luck and have a great weekend.also from the bottom up in the freezer, remove the second bin of food and touch the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, let me know what you find.

Where is the reset on my refidgerator wont get cold enough kid left it open

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

My kenmore side-by-side refrigerator is less than 4-years old. freezer works but refrigerator stde does not get cold. ice accumulates on lower vent in refrigerator.

all it does is the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and returns through the bottom air vent,so if there's ice there most likely one of the doors was left open, check the freezer for frozen water droplets on packages or on the walls and shelves of the machine,if you don't see that open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you could have a bad evap fan motor.if the fan is blowing in the freezer from the bottom remove the second draw or bin and put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, defrost heater, timer or board depending on what model you have,if the fan is blowing and you don't see any problems that i talked about you could have a bad damper,on some machines there's a damper door that opens and closes to let cold air into the fridge section,if it's bad it won't open and no cold air can blow in from the freezer,if you think the door was left open, remove anything that's in the way,in the freezer side and the fridge side, shut the machine down or unplug it and with a hair dryer melt out the ice, don't keep the heat in one place for to long, you can melt the vent if it's plastic or styrofoam, after you think it's melted out start the machine and put your hand up in the left hand corner in the fridge section and see if you can feel any cold air blowing in,there could be ice up there too, next time send the model number so i can look up your model,on a side by side you'll find the tag on the right hand side wall in the fridge up near the ceiling or on the ceiling near the light.hope this helps,if you have another fridge you could move the food and just shut the fridge down with the doors open and let it melt out on it's own overnight.good luck

Freezer side is working fine. the fridge side appears not to be as cold as it use to be. a few days ago my kid left the door ajar all night. how ever it should be cold by now. there is power I can hearthe...

When a refrigerator door is left open the freezer will continue to run to keep it cold and since it can't cool an open area it will freeze up on the inside, to resolve this you will need to unplug the fridge and open the freezer door and allow the freezer to thaw completely, once it is thawed you can plug it back in and everything should go back to normal after a 24 hour period

Fridge & freezer are cooling on bottom but not

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?sounds like the air isn't moving, there's also a damper on the fridge side, the door opens to let the cold air in and then closes, make sure the door is opening, you can take the cover off and put an ice cube on the twirled up metal part to close it and put your hand on it to open it to see if it's working
