Question about HP Refurb HP Pentium M 1.7GHz 512MB 40GB DVD+RW 14'' w/XP (DZ677AVR16692) PC Notebook
I have had my computer a year and the DVD & Cd section worked fine. A few months ago my computer crashed due to a virus via a mobile phone installation d. The computer was restored eventually but Now it has decided to only read DVDs! There is another posting on this but I am not technical minded enough to understand where to go to fix this problem. your assistance would be grtefully received
Hi there , first you try with cd cleaner or try with this like remove your combo drive from device manger like right click on my computer then go to properties in that click on hardware then dvice manger in device manager select DVD/CD-ROM drives click on + tab and it will expand and will show your combo drive name just right click on uninstall and reboot your system it will auotmatically detect your combo drive .and put any cd and see whether it is working or not.

The virus and the Disck drive problem are not related. The disk drive has two lasers- one for CD one for DVD- one of the appears to have failed. Get hold of a CD drive cleaner. - this is a disk with a little brush on the underside and a bottle of fluid. try thats first. If that does not work then it is a new drive- unless you are happy to read only DVD's
