I have a Sears 4.5 HP rotary mower. The pull cord binds when I try to start the engine. Fells like a recoil and will not start.

Check, or have someone check the flywheel key, it is probably sheared off.

Pull cord binding when mounted on engine but not when removed from engine

When you assemble the Recoil Starter, push it down onto the blower easily and then pull the cord slowly. It should drop into position as you slowly pull the cord.

How do i take off the pull start from a craftsman model 917.377582 lawnmower

engine numbers would be helpful buttttt.... the perimeter of the recoil assy should be 3-5 small screws. remove them and it should come off, the is as long as you have a eagerbeaver engine ( tecumseh ohv )

Remove the recoil from engine. Once remove try recoil. If it recoils properly then I am afraid that you have internal engine problems. Hopefully its your recoil

Fixing a cord recoil on a mtd mower with a 4 hp briggs and stratton engine

The upper covers and the fuel tank needs to come off, the starter on most engines is part of the engine cover so this will have to be un bolted and removed with the starter connected

Broken Cub Cadet

I dont own one or there but it is an easy repair. Find a wrench/socket that will fit the 3 or 4 bolts holding down the pull cord (recoil) cover and remove them and the cover. (Prob. a 10 mm socket) Then wrap a cord/narrow rope CLOCKWISE around the pulley 3-5 times and prepare mower to start as you normally would and pull the rope. Now you can cut your grass before it becomes unmanageable. Take the recoil to any small engine repair shop and have them replace the rope and then you can reinstall the recoil. In my area the charge $7-$10 for this.

Engine doesn't turn over pull cord stuck

remove the starter assembly and see if it is the recoil or engine. if by removing the recoil it recoils the cord then it is most likely a seized engine but pull the rope a few times with the assembly in your hand to check it then try turning the flywheel by hand and see what happens

Pull rope on sears 5.0 lawn mower pulls hard sometimes or you pull the cord and the spindle does not always turn. I guess it's not catching all the time. What can I do for it ?

If mower has sit outside for a while the works in the recoil may be rusty and dry. Try some oil in all the working parts. See if that works for you.

The pull cord will not recoil back into the mower and won't start it how can i fix that so my mower will work again

You probably have spring problem. You will have to pull the starter shroud off. Eigther the spring is broke or there is debris or rust binding things, if your lucky its the latter, clean and lubricate.

Starting issues. Can't pull cord.

Make sure your flywheel brake is not engaged or the cover is hindering the mechanism somehow after it is installed
