I agree with your solution and you are correct in that you lose very little quality by using component instead of HDMI. there are A/V receivers that transcode HDMI inputs to component; as far as I know that's the only other option

Your TV should have component inputs to connect your PS3 to. You will have to get an adaptor such as appears on the link I have provided. You will only be able to use resolutions such as 480p, 720p or 1080i since component does not support 1080p. Hope that helps : )

Hi sandersonkie,
Sad to say because 4 flashes of the led light at the front panel is an error code for faulty "LCD Panel". This is the expensive parts on the unit, almost same cost of a new set if you are going to send it in for parts and labor. Check if your unit is still under warranty/extended warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. If not, new unit is more practical than to send it in.
