I think one of the first things you should attempt to do is ground the motherboard. I have been having several issues with my dell studio 15 and what I initially believed was it was a result of installing the latest vista service pack. I have since begun to believe the issue is deeper than one of software.

To ground the motherboard, perform the following steps:
1. Remove the power supply from both the laptop.

2. Remove the batter from the laptop

3. Open (lift the screen) of the laptop (with the power and battery removed) and press the power key as if you are attempting to turn the machine on. (this ensures that all power that may have been within any particular component will flow through the system and reach ground).

4. Plug the power and battery back in and turn on the PC.

See if those lights on the keyboard and top functional lights begin to work. This has worked for me, but I have not been able to get a good answer to what causes this.

Jumbled keyboard numbers

Are you typing on your laptop and notice the text has become illegible? What should be letters, have become numbers or symbols. This odd behavior can probably be explained be peering a little closer at your keyboard. Those little numbers on the keys. These numbers and symbols normally become active when you hold down the function key, usually labeled as the "FN" key. The "FN" key is similar to the Shift key, activating a second function assigned to a key. It can become active seemingly on it's own because a key is locked in the on position.

Before performing numerous key combinations, try the simple thing of lightly tapping the "FN" or "Num Lock" 5 to 6 times. There may be a small particle of something logged under the key that you can loosen, move, or crush down. Do not bang the keys, just press normally. Next focus on the "Numlock" key which usually located with the "Print Screen" and "Pause" key on the top right of your keyboard. Press the "Numlock" key, then press a scrambled key to see if it's normal. Older model laptops may require you hold down at the same time, the "Ctrl-Shift-Numlock" keys. Newer models may require holding down the "Shift" key and pressing the "Numlock" key. Turn off the Function key with the following combinations. Hold down the "FN" key and hit the "Numlock", Hold down the "FN" key and hit the "Scroll" key and Hold down at the same time "Fn+F12+Num Lock"

On my laptop when pressing letter L shows number 3... rest of the letters that have number

You must had accidentaly turn on your numlock function.
To turn this off find the key that looks lika lock with a number in it or a word numlck.
Press that together with your Fn key.

Good day.

Lenovo keyboard when i press letter u number 4 come on

Deactivate numlock. You can do it by pressing Fn and numlock. One of your keys will have numlock on blue. It varies from brand. Is usually on the top row.

Some letter Keys on my Keyboard are numbers why

You have enabled the NumLock function of your keyboard. Find the NumLck key on your keyboard. It is normally on the top row of keys or above the numbers keypad. Then press Fn (Function) and NumLck at the same time. That will toggle OFF the numLock setting. It may be different function key combination on the different computer manufacturer. Dell is usually Fn + F4, Compaq is Fn + ScrLK. Each manufacturer may use a different set of key

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response.

Thanks, Joe

It's not software. You just need to press Fn + NumLck/ScrlLck to change the NumLock setting.

Character keys

There is a NumLck/ScrlLck (Num Lock/ Scroll) key on the top row right side of your keyboard. If it will be on, then you can use the keys as Numeric and if it off then it will work as character.
To toggle between on/off you can try the following.
  1. Press Fn + NumLck/ScrlLck, if it not works then do step 2.
  2. Press NumLck/ScrlLck, and try if it not works then do step 3.
  3. Press Shift + NumLck/ScrlLck.

Please post your feed-back.
Thanks
Iqbal
