Went to start it, and snapped the pull start cord. Trying to pull it apart to replace it but cant get the front gaurd off from the motor to get to the cord.
Usually, the whole starter mechanism can be removed from the left case by taking off several screws. The spool will be revealed when looking at the rear of the mechanism. Remove the rest of the starter cord from the spool and handle, then turn the spool CW about 2-turns, and wedge it so that the spool doesn't unwind again. Fit a new cord end of the same dimension and about 3-1/4 ft (1-meter) in length into the spool slot/hole, melt the end, and tie an overhand knot in the end. Wind the cord CW until you have about 8" left--poke the cord out of the cord port, push the end through the handle, melt the end, and tie an overhand knot. Stuff the knot into the handle bore, release the spool wedge, and pull the cord through several times to make sure that it works without binding in the spool and retracts fully. Reinstall the starter and test on the engine. Hope this helps!
