Question about Acer Computers & Internet

Acer Aspire 5052 nothing on LCD

I had some problems with downgrading from Vista to XP. Then my notebook shuts down as soon as I reached Windows XP booting. I had some problem with overheating of my CPU chip before. I tried opening up the case but it was difficult.. So I tilted my notebook to the side and had a big fan blowing it from the side. After a while the screen went blank. I tried rebooting but the same. The next day it booted up and the screen was fine but upon restart it went blank again. This has been so since. After a few days I managed to rip the case open and took out the heatsink and fan that seemed burnt. I have replaced the heatsink yet. I just want to know what happen to my LCD screen and what I can do to solve this problem. Is it related to the heatsink and fan problem. Thank you.

Thanks TampaNative. So do you think the LCD screen will function again after I install a new heat sink and fan?

Thanks mate. I think my graphic card may chip may need to be repaired
as even after cooling for a few days the LCD shows nothing. I think
from the photograph it is clear I cannot salvage the heat sink and fan.
I hope replacing a new one will do the job. Thanks again mate.

Yes, everything you mention above is likely related to your overheating processor.

If the LCD display worked until the processor over heated and then went blank, and would work again once it cooled down, then yes I do. As you described above, the screen going blank and blank still on reboot ( no time to cool down ), then the next day the LCD displayed again ( cooled down over night ). Appears to be directly related to the over heating problem.
But if the display problem progressed to the point that the PC would boot up cold and the display was still blank, then I would think your graphics card will need repair.

I have the acer5715/5315 series abd it crashed. I had it fixed and the guy put windows 7 so now none of my acer programs work. How can I get these to work with windows 7

Operating System Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Starter

1. Before upgrading to windows 7, you must check the specification of your acer aspire 5315.

2. Windows 7 is better than windows vista but if you are really wanted those acer programs to work. You have to downgrade your operating system from your previous operating system.

Downgrading from Vista Basic to XP

Hi

Have you tried the "compatability" mode built into Vista. Also go to Microsfts site and search for answers as they now have better number of "fixes" to issues similar to yours.

Yes you will get all the drivers here
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4315.html
However only Vista Premium and Vista Ultimate users can perform a direct downgrade. You can start a fresh installation from a bootable disk of WinXP. Be aware that this will replace the Vista with XP.
