You need to plug in a sound cable to the flat panel. DVI or VGA cannot carry audio signals so a cable will be needed. I would suggest just plugging the sound into the rear of the PC is the system didnt come with the extra cable.

Don't Connect them to the Monitor Directly.
It will Be easier for you to Connect them TO THE SOUND CARD (back of computer).

Audio will play on internal speakers only

Are you plugging the external speakers into the right port? Try plugging them into the Headphone port if there is no external speaker port. Make sure you have the external speakers turned on and the volume turned up. Also make sure you have the software in the computer to have the volume turned up and not muted. Check the audio sound properties and make sure the volume is turned up and not on mute.

Click Start/Control Panel then look for Audio or Sound and check the volume.

You can also click the megaphone at the bottom right near the time to adjust the volume and check for mute.

Same problem, brand new Dell Vostro, hooked up Polk Audio speakers from former computer and get very, very faint music. Need a solution

if the sound is very faint. you can check the volume properties if it is set to maximize and also check the physical volume control on the actual speaker - also Disconnect Any Headphones That May Be Connected to the Computer - Check for and remove any headphones connected to the computer or speakers to prevent them from muting the external speakers.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Sounds tab. You can also try head phone if it is Crystal Clear on headphone then the problem is with the Speaker as Dell might need to replace it. :)

I purchased a dell pc from a neighbor without speakers. I have hp speakers from an older computer and cannot figure out where or how to connect them. there are 3 possible places for speeker jacks, have...

Howdy, the speaker input on a Dell is often on the front and the back. It is usually the green one. The speakers from the HP should have no problem working on the dell; It doesn't care what brand of speaker it uses. Making the actual connection is only part of the deal, the mute could be on or volume turned all the way down.
If the speakers require external power, make sure they are plugged into a good outlet and turned on.

If you check all these things, and still have no sound, let me know and I will help figure out what to do next:)

I have just installed speakers on my computer, but I can't get any sound.

Check to make sure the speakers power up.

Check to make sure you have installed the speakers into the correct jack on the back of the PC.

Go into Control Panel and check the settings by double-clicking the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Make sure the Mute box isn't checked and that the volume is turned up.

My speaker all of a sudden stopped working, they are built into my monitor, and worked last night. what do i do?

  1. Check the volume control in windows and make sure audio was't muted
  2. Check the audio cable and ensure it is connected to the port on the system
  3. Ensure headphones are not plugged in an aux audio port as they will mute the speakers
  4. Check the audio drivers in Device manager
  5. Try a known good set of speakers (Or CD player headphones) and ensure the audio on the system if functional
  6. If all else fails, replace the speakers ($20 or less at any major department store)

Hello there, I have a Dell computer and trying to use HP speakers with it. Will this not work? I am not hearing a sound and my computer shows no device for speakers.

The HP speakers should work fine with your Dell.
Make sure that you have the speakers plugged into the correct port on the back of the Dell (This is typically a green colored port) Once the speakers ar plugged in to the correct port make sure that your sound is not muted.

Click on Start then on Settings or Control Panel.
Once you get to the Control Panel double click on the Sound Icon.
Verufy that the sound is not muted and you can also check the box to display your voulume settings on the task bar.

You may also want to check that your sound card in correctly installed.

Check these items and let me know if there was any change because there can be other items to check - These are just a few good jumping off points
