Problem for Canon PIXMA iP4200 InkJet Photo Printer

I have a Canon Pixma iP4200 printer. I buy genuine cartridges. However, have a black line appearing on the BACK of pages vertically down through the centre of the page. Have tried cleaning etc to no avail. Grateful of any ideas?

- I have the same problem, a thick black line running down the middle of the back of the printouts. I guess I'll have to get a new printer. Thanks for saving me hours of diagnostic work! - Guest

- Same problem. Black line along back of prints. Cleaned everything in site but fault continues. Our techie could not help. May have to buy new printer.- Guest

- I also have a PIXMA iP4200 printer that intermittently leaves an approx. 1/4" heavy black line down the center of the back of the page. I only use Canon toner cartridges, and have cleaned this printer in every possible way many times. Any help would be appreciated.- jms111

Same problem. Definitely NOT a leaking cartridge or head. (Replaced both with known good set)

- This is caused by the purge unit or drain tube failing. It is cheaper (and easier) to just replace the printer.
I have just dismantled one to confirm the diagnosis.

Where the line is on the back of the page, it sounds like some ink may have leaked out from a previous cartridge. While the printer is in the middle of printing, lift the lid and look at the page coming out. See where the line is and you should be able to see where to clean. good luck
