Question about Computers & Internet

Screen went black

No display on screen Was watching a clip and when it was over I clicked delete and whole 22 inch screen went dark. Held the power button on, and for 2 seconds it lit up again and then went dark. Did that twice. Thought I heard someone saying "find the switch" but it was too muffled. That led me to believe it was a virus, but after doing an exhaustive scan on avast! (953k files/18011 folders) and McAfee (271k items), nothing was detected. Hooked it up to my laptop, and still dark screen. Substituted a different monitor on the laptop and it worked fine. Hooked the different monitor up to my desk top and it works fine from that same 15 pin slot. Monitor bought 7/2007 Don DRTrilling@aol.com

SOURCE: screen went black

I don't know. I've never actually replaced parts in a monitor. If the bulb is expensive, it might be best to buy a new monitor. They're cheap nowadays. Or you can check if there's warranty on the monitor and it can probably be fixed for free.

PLEASE NOTE THIS INSTRUCTINS IS FOR FACTORY RESET
BY DOING THIS ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED

The paperclip is used to activate the reset button in this small hole; You will hear and feel a click of the inside button, in less than 15mm of insertion. Do not force unduly!
1. Insert paperclip, until you hear the click of the button. Keep paperclip inserted, and press and hold the black power button.
2. In about 10 seconds the blue PROSCAN screen will appear. Continue to keep black power button held, and release paperclip.
3. A few seconds later you will see an Android 'guy' lying on his back with belly open, and a red triangle (with !) symbol hovering above his belly. Release power button. This means we are on the verge of being able to break things. Note that after a minute or so, if no further action is taken, the tablet will shut down, and then be restarted normally.
4. Press and hold power button. Insert and remove paperclip. You will see a screen titled Android system recovery. (Note that repeated insertion of the paper clip will alternate the display of the Recovery menu). Release power button.
5. Use paperclip to scroll down the list of options. To reset the tablet, selectwipe data/factory reset. Press power button to make the selection. (If you go past the desired option, keep on clicking, as the selection will scroll back to the top once at the bottom).
6. Once reset has been selected, you are now at the final chance to back out or commit. All the menu items, except for one are labeled No. To commit to the reset, select Yes - delete all user data and then press power button.......FOUND ON ZOLYGON.COM

Monitor has power. Will come on very briefly and the go to black screen. Can turn power off and back on and get the same above result. After a 2-3 hour period may come to life...may not.

It appears as if the monitor's back lighting is failing. To test the theory, take a bright flashlight and shine it on the lcd monitor screen when it goes black. If you can see the images that were on the screen before it went dark while shining the flashlight on the screen, then the back lighting is failing. Depending on the monitor, it could have florescent or L.E.D. back lighting, but it's usually more economical to simply replace the monitor with a new better performing monitor, than to attempt repairing the back lighting on the failing monitor.

Watching tv screen went dark no screen power light on no video

The fault can vary from a simple failure of a line voltage to a failrue of the processing section.
So my advice before a whole list is put up is to make a quick voltage check, check power to the circuits including the display drive , preocessing circuits , look for visible failures of fusible resisitors, blown capacitors before we can suspect any section.

Monitor is blinking and then went blank

Open it up and look at the capacitors. The round "tin can" looking components. If the tops appear bulged, then replacing them may help. Check out the YouTube video... and web site...

mark587, Did you shine a very bright flashlight 1" from the screen to try and see the WIN-desktop ?? Even though the screen appears BLACK. Your words above said: JUST CAN'T SEE IT Did you really NOT see anything? Have you seen any of the longer video clips of "LCD Monitor Disassembly" on YOUTUBE? Some BLACK screen "symptom" lcd displays can be repaired for less than $10 in parts. Capacitors! Also check videos on lcd repair. Then get back here to fixya and I or any of the guys can help you decide what to do with your display whoose screen is now dark and lifeless. After doing the YOUTUBE thing you may even tell us what you will do!!! Hope this was helpful. Yes we do want to hear back from you. please rate this response on fixya. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @ aol.com. Bye for now.
