Question about Dell Studio 1737 Laptop

1 Answer

My charger gets too hot...

The charger for my dell studio 1737 gets really, really hot, and sometimes it stops charging altogether. Is this normal, or is something wrong with it?

The wires are pulling out of the top also, is this covered by my warranty?

the charger stops charging, but when i unplug it then plug it right back in, it works just fine for a while.

  • aaro161 Apr 21, 2009

when i wrap the wires around the thing in the middle (which i assume you're supposed to do, because of the rubber strap thing) it pulls the black wire coating off of the smaller wires on the inside.

thank you guys for your help!

the easiest thing to do is probably talk to dell support at http://support.dell.com/?ST=dell%20suppo...
if it is overheating and stops charging try to get more air flowing over it if possible.  what do you mean by wires are pulling out of the top ?

How long did the charger you use? Or you can remove your battery, and then test again. If it is not the problem of battery, you need a new charger. You can visithttp://www.batteriescenter.com.au/,and you will find what you want.

Chargers get hot, too hot to leave your hand on. Wires pulled out would be most likely be viewed as mechanical stress and is unlikely to be covered. To confirm you would have to contact Dell. If it stops charging altogether it had an intermitant opening and may need to be replaced.

My dell studio 1737 has gone dead.

For a new battery, we advise that you update the BIOS of your laptop, and open the hardware automatic identification port of your laptop.

When you use it firstly, you need to discharge till 5%, then charge it about 11 hours. Usually, new battery need to fully discharge and charge for three or four times, which can achieve the best performance.

About the new battery, please set the power management of your laptop: Property -> Screen Saver -> power -> Power scheme -> Portable / Laptop -> please cancel about low battery alarm and serious shortage of battery alarm when use the battery.
For some laptops, you could try to close your power management tool to test your new battery.

You could try to take out the battery from your laptop, and put it back again, repeat several times. Make sure that it isn't a poor contact problem between the battery and your laptop.

If the battery works in higher temperature, the battery protection plate will work and the laptop restart program will make a termination order. You can take out the battery, put it back again, and avoid work in high temperature.

In order to avoid some damage to the battery, please note:
Please don't take out the battery when the laptop is in run status.
Please don't pull out the ac adapter frequently when the battery is charging.
Please use high quality and reliable laptop charger, not to use the universal laptop charger.

Are there something wrong with the new battery can not charging?
That's not usually the case. When equipment for the first time to recharge the battery, the instability of the voltage and current may cause the battery charge to 50% (sometimes more, sometimes less), and equipment stop charging the battery.
If this happens, don't worry. You just remove the battey from the equipment, recharge again. First charging a new battery may need several repeated process. Please be assured that this is normal.

Many people have reflected that Dell's notebook haven't recognised and charged the new battery problem. Usually, they solve this problem via BIOS refreshed.

Usually, please connect the battert with the power supply when you can refresh the BIOS. You can download the BIOS program from Dell support website http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?s=gen&c=us&l=en&cs=&k=dell+bios+inspiron+6400&cat=sup, automatically installed and automatically restart till to complete. Of course, you could check its use manual in advance.

My dell studio 1737 will not charge the battery; however it will run on either the battery or the power supply at leas until the battery dies completely. The power supply is working properly. I have tested...

If the power supply is powering the system without the battery installed, and the battery powers the system without the power supply attached, but the power supply will not charge the battery in the system...chances are very high the charging circuit on the systemboard is not functional. There are a few possibilities as to why but the only real solution would be to replace the systemboard since the charging circuit is integrated. You could run through the charging circuit to locate the exact fault but you will need schematics in order to resolve if you are comfortable with micro-soldering.

To verify, if you can, place the AC adapter and battery into another 1737 and see if you get charging on the battery.
