Question about HP PSC 1510 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I used to have the same problem with the 1510 and other HP models. The solution is not to have any paper in the tray when you turn it on. When the error flashes up, hold the cancel/resume button (it will be flashing orange on the printer) until all activity ceases in the printer. You can then cancel the message on the PC and load the paper when you are ready to print.

The actual solution to this problem is to read the instructions!! They are printed right there in front of you each time it prints one of those annoying test pages. Once printed, you must place the test page on the scanner bed and press scan. This will complete the head alignment process that is required each time that a new ink cartridge is installed. It's not a conspiracy, it's a poorly described attempt to make your life easier.
