Hi, Hold down Enter button on remote and while holding Enter press and hold 1 (numeric) on remote for 3 or 4 seconds, now remote is set on dvd1 mode and dvd recorder will accept its commands. Thanks.
First make sure there is not a DVD or CD in the tray. It must be empty. Turn the unit off, then on. Then press the "play/pause" and "stop" buttons. This will reset your DVD player. This worked for me. Unfortuantely the DVD player has always had issues with DVD's that play over 90 minutes. At this point it freezes. I have updated the firmware. It seemed to freeze earlier prior to the update (say around 45-60min). It came free with my TV, which after a year was replaced as it required a $2k repair.
This is a dedicated audio recorder. Therefore, you must use dedicated audio discs (not data discs). You can tell the difference as audio discs specify the recording time (usually 80mins) instead of data capacity (usually 700MB).
When you have the right disc inserted, press the record button & it will go into record standby, ready to record. First, set a level, then press record again, and you are recording.
throw it in the trash- I got 1 from costco, liked it so much, bought another a week later. First one started giving me the "invalid" msg, 2nd one did the same 1 wk later, so I guess they're programmed to do so after so many hours after being plugged in. Too bad, cuz it was the easiest to use of 5 previous models I tried. Their easyguide onscreen menu was the greatest, plus the status of time, pause & recording indicator, which you could turn on or off as needed, were very useful.
A real shame to have to throw in the trash. Won't ever buy another thing from them.
Try different brands of disk, most dvd-r recorder are disk sensitive, buy only one disk per brand, find the brand compatible to your recorder by just inserting the disk and wait for confirmation that it is ready for recording session. I have tried around five brands, sony and maxell as well as verbatim are good dvd-r disk.
To make the unit play all regions do the following:
1. Put in a DVD that will play (in our case region 2)
2. When it starts playing, press eject
3. While the drawer is open press "0" seven times
4. When you get the "Congrats" press Enter and done!
