Re: freezes up while in use

Coincidentally I had exactly the same problem yesterday. Use the reset button behind the silver faceplate. Instructions in the manual. Mine now works fine and I didn't even lose my preset destinations.

My garmin nuvi 1300 will not aquire satellites

This seems to happen quite often with GPS units. There are a few things that could cause this to happen. Is the GPS mounted in view of the sky? If not it may not be able to acquire the satellites. If this is not the problem, try performing a reset by pressing the top left corner of the screen while pressing the power button. These two things will usually help, but in the case that they don't, contact their support at 1-800-800-1020 and they should be able to assist you.

My Garmin nuvi 1370 freezes when it is calculating.

Try doing a reset on the nuvi by pressing and holding the power button on for at least 10 seconds.
You could also try running the Garmin WebUpdater.
Download and Install WebUpdater.

Model 1350 will not aquire satelites to operate

During the initial start up of your GPS it may take 15-30 minutes to lock satellites depending on where it is. I would suggest giving it a full charge powering it on then let it sit for 30 minutes. If you are unable to lock satellites still there may be an issue with your unit.

Hope this helps!

My garmin freezes on startup. Can't master reset

You could try pressing and holding the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, try a master reset by:

Start with the unit off and unplugged from power.
  1. Touch and hold the lower right corner of the screen with an index finger or the eraser end of a pencil
  2. Continue touching and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit on.
  3. Release the power button when the device powers on.
    • You will see a new message: "Do you really want to erase all user data?"
  4. Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
  5. Touch "Yes"
  6. Restart the unit
Please let me know if it helps.

I have a Nuvi 200w that I received last December as a gift. This unit takes forever to aquire a satellite. The "DIFFICULY AQUIRING SATELLITES" message comes on 90% of the times I try to use it....

While under warranty.... yes.... Make sure it's been registered on their site before calling them and requesting an RMA number.

Good luck!

Will not calculate route

There is a reset button on the side that you will need to press using a pen or pencil. It will allow the computer to reaccess the satellite.

Garmin GPS-V freezes up

The update from Garmin seems to have cured the problem!! All I did was the reload.

Thanks velomaster!

I've had my Garmin GPS V for almost four years and loved it ... until the dreaded "black line" showed up. I considered replacing the unit but couldn't find anything that would give me the features the GPS V gave me (elevation, ground speed, grade change) and I didn't need a color screen display as an alternative. I'd even bid on a few replacement units on ebay. I was just about ready to bite the bullet, send it in to Garmin and swallow the $125 rebuilt charge when I ran across this thread. After the update it hasn't locked up and as a bonus I have more detail than I had before!

If you have a GPS V you really do need to do this.

GPS not able to lock (SNR often 0, sometime in thee 5-10 range)

Me again...I took the unit apart and found out that there is a coax cable between the back board and the middle board. The cable has plug in connectors (v. small size) and the female connectors are soldered SMT on the boards. They are coming out quite one of them was literally ripped off the board. I soldered it with quite a fine iron, did a reset and I am back in a footnote my readings in AZ /El were all zeros!!!!
