Question about GPS
After powering up, screen comes on, after 30 - 60 seconds of use screen goes black, like not power. Can be started again and the same thing happens

I have a similar problem with a 7200 which has starting shutting off on its own. First I discovered that if I turned the GPS receiver off (like I was using it indoors) it stayed on. After some more experimenting, it seems that if I just disable the WAAS/EGNOS function it also stays on. This reduces accuracy, but may be an acceptable work-around (certainly cheaper than several hundred $ repair bill).

If its just the 12 V adapter - how about using a power inverter (around $30.00) to power the device? A little cumbersome, but a whole lot less expensive.

I have a garmin street piot 7500 and it shuts off by itself when suing the 12 v adapter in the car only.they sent a new power cord but it didn't solve the problem. It works perfectly in the house with the ac adapter and also with the 12v cord attatched to an indoor wall outlet adapter, any ideas?I refuse to pay garmin $400 to repair a defect .I have seen similar problems on other sites with this model and others .thanks...rich

Tequiza, I am having the same problem with my 7500. Do you have your power supply ALWAYS powered on, even though you may have your unit off? Do you have the same problem with the AC adapter? It may be just the 12V DC adapter. Bad news if it's out of warranty, Garmin wants $400 to repair. That's outragous IMHO. BasicWiz

I am having the sauess is that me problem with my 7500. My guess is that a power component is heating up and shutting it down.
