Question about Canon PC170 Copier

1 Answer

Canon PC6re copier makes copies that are dark on the long edges

I had an old AB **** copier that I took to the local shop for repair - wasn't worth the $400 to do. So I picked up a Canon PC-6re recently and it seems to operate fine generally except the copies are darker at the outside edges along the 11'' dimension and they seem to get darker the more copies I make. I read that the replacement ink toner cartridges also include a drum - and I have two of these. Is changing the cartridge likely to solve the problem?
I really just need clean one-color copies on occasion and hate to invest too much money.

It was used, of course, trying to replace the prior machine inexpensively. It came with a new toner unit and I was thinking of putting that in to see if it helped.
FYI, I did try the suggestion by Cogz of adjusting the density level on the control panel. It just made the entire printing, streaks and all, either lighter or darker.

Just fyi, a Canon PC-6e is a copier that is about ten + years old of a model... The drum unit will make the copies better.... But, you most likely need to clean the optic's. Have you tried to make the copies lighter??? If I am correct, there is a small botton on the control pannel that will turn... It will make the copies light one way and darker the other way... Good Luck

I'm guessing you used a compatable toner/drum cartridge. It sounds like you have a bad cartridge. If its a refilled drum cartridge its bad, either the drum blade is bad or charging is bad. Take it, or send it back and get another one. I recommend genuine "Canon" products. All toners and units are not made to the same standard as the Canon products.

Broad dark line on right edge of copied papers

If you have the black line on copies and scans but printing from P.C is fine, then your scanner is broken.

Contact your printer manufacturer for a replacement or repair.

I am getting a 5mm dark bar on the lead edge of a print job

try drum refresh and developer refresh... make sure your firmware is current... if possible reset your print card... physically and software wise... make sure that the guides on your paper trays are a good fit... change the default paper tray for print jobs and see if that helps... if it does... then its the tray... if not then call service...

Copies are dark

No. It would most likely be the opposite.

The stripes could be caused by contamination of the dev roller, fixing rollers or marks on the drum.

You could also clean the laser ****-glass.

Copier prints dark

WOW! Talk about a trip back through time! It may well be the fuser again after so long, but it could very well aslo be the toner cartridge failing.
Remove the toner cartridge, and on the under side of it look at the drum (green cylinder) -you may have to push back a "gate". Does it have toner on it? If so that is your problem. Don't bother trying to clean it, it is supposed to be self cleaning and will get covered again immediately anyway. Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't even spend the money on a new toner cartridge for this old soul....for another $50 -$100 you should be able to pick up a new LASER copier -and please don't waste even more money on an "inkjet" machine!
