Question about White Sewing 1300DE Sewing Machine

1 Answer

What are the recommended tensions for a White 534 serger? I just need to get it back to basics -- little hands undid the settings and I don't have my book where I wrote down where the settings should be. Thanks,

Thank you for your help -- the reason why this didn't solve the problem is because the machine needs servicing. I believe something went crazy with it when I sewed polyester. Something I had forgotten and then remembered about machines getting knocked out of sync because of polyester. Thank you so much. Mary

Your tension should be between 3-5 but all your dials need to be right around the same setting. Try them on 3 then go to 5 see what the difference is and then adjust accordingly.

How do I get the correct tension on my Elna 792D 4 thread overlocker?

ALWAYS Raise the presser foot when threading the machine. Give each thread and extra little tug when threading the tension disks so it seats completely. The midway point on the tension disk is the standard factory setting when using the standard thread weight, however, with use, age, and thread weight that setting may change. So, the user can use the midway point as a starting point for the basic overlock stitch but will need to make adjustments to get the correct tension. When testing your tension, it works best to use the 4 thread colors so it is easier to identify which thread is misbehaving. When you become familiar with your machine and how the stitch looks, it is easier to identify which thread is which.

Remember that the tension settings will also determine the stitch you are trying to create. A basic overlock will generally have the tension set around the midway point, however, when changing to a rolled edge or some other stitch, certain tensions will be increased or decreased in order to create that particular stitch.

I have a white speedy lock serger model 7340. I completely pulled all threads out and now trying to re-thread new thread. I have tried around 15 times. It will not loop. Threads don't interlock at all

Be sure that you are threading each thread in the correct order. The manual should have those instructions.

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the machine!!!! For most machines, the upper looper is threaded first, the lower looper second (the lower looper thread finishes by draping OVER the top of the upper looper and then pulled toward the back of the machine), then thread the needles. Give each thread an extra little tug when threading the tension disk to make sure it is seated completely.

Even if you are unable to locate a tutorial for your particular machine, most models from the same era will thread the same.

Don't be surprised if it doesn't work the first, second, or even the third try. It took me most of a day to get mine threaded correctly the first time!!! Patience!

Hi please help me I can't get the tension settings correct on my Empisal 720c overlocker

Make sure you are using brand new needles.

Remove all the thread from your machine. [It is recommended to clip the threads at the spool before the threading path, raise the presser foot, and pull the clipped thread DOWN through the machine. Pulling thread up (both in the case of sergers and sewing machines) can damage the tension mechanism.]

ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and re-thread from the beginning.

Verify that you are threading each thread in the order specified.

When threading each, be sure to give the thread an extra little tug when pulling it through the tension mechanism. (This helps seat the thread completely in the tension disk. Sometimes it makes a little pop when it seats. Can't tell you how many times I've had issues and discovered one thread was not seated.)

The standard tension setting for basic overlocking is the midway point on each of the tension dials. Every machine is different and things change with time and use, so this is a good place to start but you will have to "tweak" each thread to get them where you want it. When you are testing the tension, it always helps to use 4 different colors of thread so you can tell which thread needs adjustment. Once you get familiar with how each thread's stitches look and can recognize them, then you'll be able to eliminate the various colored thread. Everytime you change fabrics or stitch, you will probably need to test it first before using it on your garment or item.

If a thread breaks, it is usually best to remove all the threads and start from the beginning. Trying to snake a thread through the path out of order frequently fails. If you are experiencing issues, avoid the frustration and start over.

White model 534 serger

Your serger most likely need to be oiled. It is important that you keep your serger clean and oiled. More so than your sewing machine. If this is a new squeak, you can try to oil the area that it is coming from yourself if you can get access to it. If it is not a new squeak it is possibly coming from the motor or the belt and then I wouldn't suggest to oil those parts. If you can't get to where the squeak is at bring it to a repair person and they should be able to take care of it.

Problems With the Tension serger kenmore

Open the tensions (set at zero) and have the presser foot up when threading.

Make sure the antenna if fully extended.

Turn the handwheel so the upper looper is at it's highest position.

Thread, beginning at the right thread cone unless the manual indicates differently.

After threading, set the tensions back to the recommended setting.

If this does not help, please provide more details.

I can't get the thread adjusted correctly on my

You did not mention the type of fabric that you are having trouble with. For instance, stretchy fabric may require a slightly different approach. I'll assume that you are using a medium weight woven material.

First of all, ensure that you are using good quality cone thread, such as Maxi-Lock and that your needle(s) are new or in good shape.

Secondly, make sure that each thread is pulled fully into its tensioner, BETWEEN the discs and not behind them or riding on top of them. Grasp the thread from both sides of the tension and pull it through like dental floss.

Test sew if one or more threads was not in the tensioner. If still not good, proceed with the next step.

If you have your instruction manual, look at the page which tells you how to set it up for normal tension. If you don't have a manual, call 1-440-808-6550 and they will send you a free PDF of the manual.

NOTE: Most White 532 tension dials rotate TWO full turns around, so you don't know if you are at 5 or 15.

Turn all of the tension dials to zero, each one should have no tension. Then set the tensions as follows:

Left needle: 7
Right needle: 3
Upper looper: 3
Lower looper: 3

Adjust slightly as needed.
