Screen content is clear but very dark, can just about read screen if shine a bright light onto it. When open lid or press Fn-F8 or change the screen settings, the screen flashes normal brightness for short moment. Any advise appreciated. Peter
My computer screen has just gone dark. I can see that the images are there and can manipulate the mouse, though I can't see it. I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 and live in France
What do I do?
My Inspiron E1705 works for a few minutes then goes totally dark. If I have a monitor hooked up doing dual so that I can continue using the laptop. If I change Graphic options and clone the display (same setting I used to turn on the clone monitor) it will come back and work properly for 5 or so minutes and then go black again. If I reboot it comes up and works again for 5 or so minutes. I have reloaded the drivers and checked the cables; does any one have any recommendations?
There is a power inverter controlling power to the display, in the monitor of unit, it could be this part needs to be replaced typical repair us$15 part us$45 labor if it changes by moving the monitor it could be the cable that passes through at the hinge about the same cost to repair.

Re: Loss of light on screen Dell Inspiron E1705
Check your backlight settings, Power Settings, etc.....
You may have Vista (vista has other power settings such as a custom sleep mode which can fail sometimes to work properly with some hardware/monitor configurations).
So Disable any unconventional Hibrid Hibernation options k!

Darken the screen and either move the lid forward or backwards. Laptops have Liquid Crystal Screens and moving the lid backwards or forward will give the screen a different look.
If you need to adjust the brightness of the screen it is controlled by keys on your laptop. Most times to darken the screen you will have to hit the FN, CTRL or ALT key and hold it down while you hit the key that corresponds to the screen darken key. On some computers (even on my laptop) it will be the down arrow key, so i would press FN+the down arrow key. Remember to hold the first key down while you hit the next key. The icon used for most times to denote the brightness or darkness looks like a circular sun or a washer that goes on screws.
Look on your keyboard on the "f" keys (f1, f2, etc...) for a symbol that looks like a sun or shining light. Something that would indicate brightness. Now, hold down the 'fn' (function) key on the bottom left of your keyboard and then press the backlight key you just found.

1)you have an Fn key bottom row left, hold down while also pressing right arrow, bottom right. Each press increases brightness. Each press of left arrow decreases brightness.2)go to the manual of Aspire 5100 that you there is the option "AcerClearVision" in the software "AcerArcade". See manual:"Acer Clear Vision is a video enhancement technology that detects video content and dynamically adjusts the brightness/contrast/saturation levels so that you do not need to change the color settings if the movie you are watching contains scenes that are overly dark or too bright." So you opened "AcerArcade". There you take: "movie or cinema--> settings -->display settings" en there you change in the option 'color profile' 'ClearVision' to 'Original'.
If your screen is just slightly dark, you can increase the brightness by holding down the function key, and repeatedly hitting the brightness + key, which has a picture of a shiny sun on it.
If that doesnt help, you could have a LCD back light or inverter fail, and you can verify that is the problem by hooking up an external monitor to your laptop, and check to see if the picture quality is good.
Decrease Brightness (fn+f7) The fn+f7 hotkey decreases the brightness of the notebook screen. The longer you hold down the fn+f7 hotkey, the more the screen dims. Decreasing screen brightness conserves power.» To increase screen brightness, press the fn+f8hotkey.
