Your solution sounds great but I am unable to have it shipped to my address. I live in Iqaluit NU, Canada. I also tried having it shipped to Bowmanville ON, but they can't send it there either. Do you know another retailer that can send to Canada....at least Ontario?

  • t_j_stokes Apr 20, 2009

It solved my problem and more, not only did my problem get fixed but Solution Guy went out of his way to have extra delivery venders for my access in the remote location I'm in. Have you ever tried seal meat or baluga?

    Thanks,

    Nanuk of the North

  • t_j_stokes Apr 21, 2009

Baluga is whale, you eat the skin half frozen and some fat with soya sauce raw. My other question is there is another white conecter below the PRO41 start relay. It has one pin to connect is this an issue as well or nothing to do with the solution you gave me? Just curious while I'm ordering parts.

TJ,

The starter on your compressor decided to go on strike. Fire it and get a new one. There's a universal starter I use all the time... it's a "PRO41". You can get one online or at a local appliance parts retailer.

Super easy to install. Pull the unit out and UNPLUG IT. Now remove the panel that's covering the compressor. On the left side of the compressor, you'll see the starter assy. (it may be under a plastic cover---> remove that).

Now just pry the old starter off and hook up the new one. Just line the pins up and press it on! That's it... fridge fixed.

Rate this solution, will ya? Show me some Expert (freebie) love.

    Howdy, Canuck! (Texas here...)

Yeah, here's a link to Reliable that vends parts in Canada. And if I'm not mistaken, instructions are included. (I know I said I use them all the time... I don't even LOOK at the packaging. I could install these standing on my head wearing a blindfold, I've done so many of them.)
---> and as an aside? I've NEVER had a call-back on any of these I've installed... so rest assured.

    SG

p.s. You rated this as 90% out of 100%, where's the love? That 90% rating drops my overall DOWN. I hate it when that happens. Like this chick... I fixed her problem 100% (even went so far as to make her an image!) and she rates me 90%... WTH?

  • Anonymous Apr 20, 2009

Thanks for the new rate, Nanuck!

My sealed meat comes from the grocery store. And Beluga? WTH? Is that some sort of mushroom? (JK)

Glad you got it fixed... let me know if there's anything else I can do for ya. OK?

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp

..
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Kenmore elite 596 73503201 no cooling in top compartment

if the freezer is getting cold the problem is due to the cold air from the freezer not getting into the refrigerator. There are several things that can cause this problem. The coils in the freezer icing up and not defrosting properly is one of the things that can cause the refrigerator not to get cold enough. Another problem is the fan that blows the cold air from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator, not working. When the compressor is running open the refrigerator's door and push the switch that makes the light go out. You should hear the fan blowing the cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator, when this switch is pushed in. If the fan is working then you will need to find what is blocking the air flow. Iced up coils are a common problem. The icing problem can be due to a defective defrost timer or something defective in the defrost circuit. Click here for more information. Check for these problems and let me know what you have found.

Refrigerator/freezer gets warm intermittently

sounds like your thermostat is faulty
the thermostat reads the temperature of the cabinet and controls the temperature
the 1 thing to check on the uprights is the evaporator is in the freezer and that makes the cool then there is a fan that blows the air around the fridge and freezer to freeze things
now there is a cycle that hapens to cycle usualy every 12 hours and that is the defrost cycle
this cycle turns off the compressor and fan turns on an defrost element on the evaporator and heats up the coils to get rid of the ice
the ice turns to water and runs through a drain to a evaporator tray and when the cycle is finished the fridge stars up again and goes into the cooling state again
when the thermostat decides that the fridge is cold enough it turns of the compressor and so on it goes through the cycles as required
if the drai is blocked or the defrost system is not working the evaporator will get choked with ice and the fan will not beable to let air through to cool things off

Maytag refrigerator too cold sometimes and then extremely warm

Freezers and refrigerators use little thermostat bulbs inside the compartments in the back make sure nothing is blocking or has hit these and damaged them. this is what regulates the temp inside. Or worst case, the thermostat has gone by the wayside. But make your vents are not plugged so airflow is restricted in the back and make sure your coils underneath and backside are clean of dirt. If this is a self defrost unit make sure it is doing just that, check the drip pan underneath for water. Check the simple things first, otherwise sounds like the thermostat might be bad. sorry!
