Screen does not work any more. Got a new LCD but still no picture.

Need display card for acer aspire 3100-1148

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

There is no "display card" in a laptop. The video is integrated onto the main board and can't be replace by itself. What trouble were you having that led you to get a replacement screen, and what trouble are you having now? Does the computer start at all? Successfully start Windows but no display?

Did you get a new laptop display?

You said that you want a display card. first no extra card can be added to the laptop. that is not possible. and second if your lcd is not working then the inverter card might be gone. it is a small card which converts dc to high voltage ac so that the screen can be back lit and run. if this has gone it can be replaced and you can again restore ur screen.

you can check the working of the graphic card of you laptop by connecting external monitor. if that also not working then you need to replace ur motherboard. these are the solutions.

so in order to make sure your motherboard is ok. just connect an external monitor. and you cannot upgrade your graphic card as it is final in laptop.no upgrades for that.

Screen has gone cloudy?

Kevin, Kevin, Kevin,.....you should have posted your problem here first.

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED lights.

In regards to the Acer Aspire 7720 series of Notebook PC's, the Backlight is a CCFL.

Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.
(Approximately 2mm Wide, by close to the height of the LCD screen, Tall )

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity) of the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.

http://www.cdsparts.com/p-97-new-acer-aspire-7720-7720g-7720z-7720zg-series-lcd-inverter.aspx

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME THE FAULT IS THE INVERTER.

The thin plastic frame in front of the LCD screen, (Resembles a picture frame), is the Display Bezel.

The screen Inverter is mounted towards the bottom of the LCD screen, and behind the Display Bezel.

This you already know. Posting for those who read this solution in the future.

ACER ASPIRE HAS NO DISPLAY

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

Hi, just turned on my acer aspire, and whilst power is going through it, the screen won't come on. is this a common problem?

Does the laptop appear to boot up but cannot see an image on the screen?
If this is the case the LCD screen maybe faulty.
You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Acer aspire one screen is blank but laptop is running

If the external monitor trick does not work at all, then the laptop itself is faulty. This has happened to me TWICE - both times was the BIOS needing to be flashed. Just follow the directions here - if they are too complex track down a techie friend and give them the link:

Acer Aspire 5050 screen is blank

Hi, if it works with an external monitor it's more likely an LCD problem. When you push the power button, noting comes up on the main LCD screen? not even the Acer logo etc.?
Did you set your video card to use an external monitor and disabled the primary LCD? If so, you need to go to display settings, advanced and go to ATI Display and make sure that the notebook monitor is on.

Acer aspire one will not work.

Hi,

If you get a post screen with Acer written on it at startup, and the screen turns off when loading the system (Windows or Linux), then you need to reinstall the system using an external USB cd unit and the recovery disk that was provided with your Acer.

If instead the display has no screen at all , try connecting an external monitor to test the laptop.

If you get picture on external monitor, then the Aspire One has a faulty LCD ribbon cable or a faulty LCD display or inverter.

If you get no picture on external screen , then you have a faulty motherboard, possibly faulty video chipset on motherboard.

In any case check your Acer One warranty, all the faults listed are covered by Acer warranty for one year.
Contact Acer at the number listed on documentation to have the computer repaired.

MY ACER LAPTOP SCREEN TURNS ON BUT THE SCREEN IS BLACK

To determine if you have a video card problem or the LCD screen is at fault.
Connect an external monitor to the video port on the laptop and boot up your laptop, if you get a display on the external monitor then your video card is OK and you have a faulty LCD.

When you power your laptop without an external monitor and have a close look at the LCD screen at and you see a slight image then the fault is with the backlighting panel. This fault could be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL backlight lamp.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
The inverter can be easily replaced so can the CCFL lamp (but requires a lot more work)

ACER PICTURE PROBLEM – MY SOLUTION

I had a similar problem, but I got a picture before it broke up and went off. The screen was backlit, but no video (screen was receiving some power).
The LCD needs a very stable voltage to work, this is provided through the LCD connector ribbon. In my case the ribbon was damaged and replaced it.
I have had no problem since.

I discovered this through trial and error; I first changed my transformer power supply and then the video inverter card.

You may find the link below helpful as it contains articles that photographically show you how to open the laptop for repairs.
