Hi. While watching tv very often the screen with go black. We still have sound. Sometimes all we have to do is turn the set off and the picture comes back right away. Other times it takes hours for the set to come back on. Do you know what the problem is and if so what we should do to fix it.
Is it possible that the tv can not take the constant pausing of programs. We have Bell Expressvu and use the feature often.

Re: Toshiba 42 " TV
This is a sign that there is a problem in your high voltage section of your TV. The anode voltage might be dropping to a lower then normal level. This would cause this problem. I would suggest that you not try to repair this yourself becausee of the dangerous voltages that are present in the high voltage section of the TV set. You may have to take this set to a qualified electronics repair shop near you. I know this is not wha you want to hear, but the voltages involved can kill.

If your philips tv keeps losing it's stations when you switch it off, this my be a solution -----my 42" tv would need to be retuned every time I wanted to watch it this fault just started over night it was all working fine then sat down to watch tv and had to retune tv from scratch I could then watch telly all night fine change channels no probs all great switch it off next day retune and so it went on if you have this problem switch telly on then hold in menu button on tv until screen goes black (this reboots software) then retune tv as normal it will ask if you want a full retune (yes) when this is complete digital and analogue your tv should now remember channels when switched off and work as it used to ----( Hope this helps you if you have had this problem it worked for me ). Good Luck
It sounds like you have a digital tuner adapter from your local cable company, under your tv settings turn off the closed captioning. that should solve it, if not please describe more in depth whats going on.
unplug the power from the reciever for a few moments. plug it back in and let it load. once its finished turn to channel 201. Usually it the reciever is on an unavailable channel (channel with no programming) when it restarted it will go back to that unavailable channel hince the black screen and no sound.
Plug the TV to an open channel on your receiver via this output: *Rear, 1 x Digital audio output (coaxial) ( TOSLINK ) This will look like a single RCA output plug. Set that input channel on your receiver to some sort of virtual surround mode because it doesn't look like your HDTV has a decoder in it (meaning it will come out stereo and the receiver will have to fake it). Turn the volume all the way down on the TV and use the receiver to control TV volume just as you do with DVDs.
*Substitute this with the digital audio output on your set top box if you are sending video only to the TV from the set top box (component, DVI or s-video connections). So video goes to the TV, audio to the receiver.
Did the cable person take a reading on the signal level at the cable outlet on the wall and did the cable person check the TV setting to make sure they are correct. TV could be set on the wrong channel also.
Are you sure this is only while watching tv with the reciver?? Try watching a dvd or video. Sounds like a burn in line on a tube or lcd type projection set. Let us know please and a picture would help if possible?
