I use a dl 514 router. the computer shows a wireless connection and a strong signal but i'm not able to get online. now that I'm using a cable, it still shows a wireless connection with a strong signal.

Its quite likely that the router is not connected to your computer wirelessly. Which means, your wireless card is not picking up a IP address. I would suggest two thigns 1. In your wireless utlity , try to repair the connection. 2. Check if you have a static IP address. If you do, remove it.
Hope this helps
Thanks Ranjit

Connection and wireless network with DI-514 disappeared

there is a very small reset button on the unit. Press it and hold it for 5 seconds. This will reset it to the factory specs. Then proceed to set it up like you did when you got it new.

Router randomly stops sending out wireless signal

You may be getting interference from other routers in your area.
Check to see what channels the other routers are broadcasting in your area, change it to a channel that is not being used.
The location of the router could affect the signal strength, move the router away from concrete reinforced walls etc, and or move the router to a higher position in a clear space.

My accer laptop looses its wireless connection at my home every 1 to 1.5 hrs.It works fine every where else.Could this be my dlink?

Intermittent Connectivity:
NOTE: Before following the steps in this article, check if your wireless computers have stable connection when connected to other wireless networks (hotspots).

Frequent wireless disconnection can be caused by different factors such as:
  1. Wireless interference within the network.
  2. Wireless settings of the D-Link router are still set to default.
  3. Firmware is corrupted.
Reducing Wireless Interference
If you are experiencing frequent disconnection from the wireless network, it helps if you check the following factors, all of which can greatly affect your wireless signals:
your cordless telephone system (or even your neighbors’), or other nearby equipment. Try to change your router’s channel to 1 or 11 (the default channel is 6) and restart the wireless computers.
Physical obstructions: Your router or wireless computers may be losing connectivity because of physical obstacles such as walls and floors. Try to move the equipment to different locations to find a better link.

  • Placement of the router: D-Link suggests that you place your router as high off the ground as possible. When placing the router in a high location, leave a distance of two feet between the router antenna tips, ceiling, and wall. If your signal passes through multiple floors, place the router on the upper-most floor, and high up in the room.
  • Surroundings: Keep the router away from large metal objects, bodies of water (fish tanks, bathrooms), and any electrical equipment including television sets, microwaves, radios, etc.
Customizing Wireless Settings of the Router
Having default wireless settings on the D-Link router may cause conflict with other D-Link routers within your network range. D-Link suggests changing the SSID (network name) and the Wireless Channel of your router. Also, if it is possible, enable the Wireless Security of your router.
D-Link IP address :

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

D link router

This could be due to many factors. A few to look at is:

Move the router closer to the PC

Update the drivers on the PC, making sure the wireless network card is not using windows drivers alone (re-installing the drivers from the CD or website will fix this.)

If the wirless network on the PC is a USB pen type, then change it to a different port. Or, it may need USB 2. If your PC does not have this, you can purchase a USB 2 PCI card from ebay for under £10.

Try unplugging any DECT (digital cordless) phones in the house, as they may be interfering.

Wireless connectivity

I was working with a customer that had a similar D-Link router. I discovered the unit was getting extremely hot after being on for around 15 minutes or more. After turning the router off for 5 minutes and then back on (allowing it to cool down), wireless service would go back to normal. We ended up replacing the router with a different make and model as the solution.
