Question about Dell OptiPlex SX270 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Computer does not start. Replaced motherboard and RAM. Hear the fan when I start the computer

I have a Dell Optiplex SX270 which stopped working. I replaced the motherboard with a new one and have also replaced the memory (RAM). But there seems to be no change. When I press the start button, I see yellow/orange light on the motherboard and the green light under the start button. I also hear the fan running. But I don't see anything on the monitor and if I click on a button on the monitor, I get the message "check signal cable". Please help.

I have used three different monitors (Dell Monitor that I got, a new LCD that I had bought recently and an older CRT that I have a server running with). I have also replaced the DVI to VGA adapter that connects monitor to PC. I still have no luck. All monitors go to power save mode. One thing that I did notice was that with Dell LCD monitor, if I connect the monitor goes to power save mode, but if I disconnected the monitor cable from the DVI to VGA adapter, the monitor wakes up with a self test screen. Any help is appreciated.

how do I check if power supply is working? I don't have another optiplex SX270 to test it against. Neither do I have another power supply. This is an external power supply and the orange/yellow light on the motherboard is actually solid when I connect power supply to computer.

The monitor has the problem. the message only means, the connector is not properly connected on motherboared . please try another monitor.

I am sure about this...monitor or the connector ( as u have changed the motherboard) of the monitor has the problem.

You have changed almost everything. Usually the problem of Ram and gfx card prevents showning up on monitor.on other cases, your pc should not start running. Can you please make sure, power supply is ok?

this is an unusual condition, i think

You can check the meanings of the error beep codes HERE. Every beep code means something different. The bad thing is that the code I think you are speaking of is a fatal error.

Good luck

Optiplex SX270 LED light code

Hello

The LED code you described indicates a memory failure. Remove and re-install all of your memory. If this does not fix the issue, remove all memory and insert one stick at a time until the unit turns on. Replace faulty memory.

Here is the LED Code guide from Dell...

I have a dell sx270 desktop when I plug it in only the fan works

First of all, keep the front button pressed until the system shuts off. It might be one of several causes:
1) Memory module damaged (or dirty)
2) The processor is damaged, or
3) The motherboard parted off.
Remove the memory modules and test them one by one. Or if you can test them in another PC (assuming both PCs use the same kind of modules).

Hou do i reset bios on a dell optiplex sx270

  1. Boot up the computer into the setup (depending on your bios, to get into the bios you need to hit the DEL key during boot up.)
  2. Press 'ALT' and 'F' at the same time
  3. Turn 'NUM LOCK', 'SCROLL LOCK' and 'CAPS LOCK' on. (Make sure the lights on the keyboard are on.)
  4. Press 'ALT' and 'P' at the same time. The bios should now be reset to the factory settings.

Orange led on mother board

You have a hardware failure, most likely memory or video card. The first thing I would try is open the case and blow the dust out of it, especially dust on the memory modules and anywhere on the motherboard. Then try to boot the computer again. If that does not work I would start removing components one at a time and testing them.
